Comparison of subjectively perceived burden of parents of children with psychiatric and somatic diseases

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem diplomové práce bylo zjistit a porovnat míru subjektivně vnímané zátěže rodičů dětí s diabetem mellitem I. typu a rodičů dětí s ADHD a zda měly sociodemografické údaje, jejich sociální a rodinný život, finance, emoční pohoda, jejich vztahy a ztráta kontroly nad jejich životem vliv na vnímanou zátěž rodičů. Metodika: Pro sběr dat byl použit dotazník Zarit burden interview (ZBI). Výzkumu se účastnilo celkem 154 rodičů. Hlavním kritériem pro zařazení do výzkumného šetření byla diagnóza onemocnění diabetes mellitus I. typu a ADHD dítěte ve věku 3-18 let. Výzkum byl prováděn na dětské psychiatrické a diabetologické ambulanci vybraných zařízení. K analýze dat byl použit program Statistica 14. Výsledky: Bylo zjištěno, že rodiče dětí s DM I. typu pociťují minimální zátěž oproti rodičům pečující o děti s ADHD. Výzkumem nebyl potvrzený vliv sociodemografických údajů jako je věk rodičů, doba péče o dítě nebo rodinný stav. Naopak statisticky významný rozdíl byl zjištěn mezi mírou vnímané zátěže a věkem dětí, pohlavím rodičů a jejich sociálním a rodinným životem, financemi, emoční pohodou, jejich vztahy a ztráty kontroly nad jejich životem. Závěr: Výsledky výzkumu naznačují potřebu podpory a pomoci pro rodiče, kterým není v našem zdravotnickém systému věnována dostatečná pozornost. Ve většině případů je veškerá pozornost určena nemocným dětem a na potřeby pečovatele se zapomíná. Abstract:

The aim: The aimed to examine and compare the subjectively perceived burden of parents with children diagnosed with Type I diabetes mellitus and ADHD. It also explored how socio-demographic factors, social and family life, finances, emotional well-being, relationships, and loss of control impacted this burden. The methodology: The Zarit burden interview (ZBI) questionnaire was used for data collection. A total of 154 parents participated in the research. The main criterion for inclusion in the research investigation was the diagnosis of type I diabetes mellitus and ADHD in a child aged 3-18 years. The research was conducted at the children's psychiatric and diabetes outpatient clinic of selected facilities. Statistica 14 was used to analyze the data. The results: It was found that parents of children with type I DM experience minimal burden compared to parents caring for children with ADHD. The research did not confirm the influence of socio-demographic data such as the age of the parents, time spent caring for the child or marital status. On the contrary, a statistically significant difference was found between the degree of perceived burden and the age of the children, as well as the gender of the parents, their social and family life, finances, emotional well-being, their relationships, and loss of control over their lives. The conclusion: The conclusion highlighted the need for more support and attention towards parents in the healthcare system, who are often overlooked with most focus directed at the children with illnesses.
