Social consequences of videogames through the eyes of sociology

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá společenskými dopady videoher z pohledu sociologie. Cílem této práce je prokázat, že videohry mají široký společenský význam, přesahující rámec pouhé zábavy. Práce je rozdělena do dvou hlavních částí. První část se věnuje historickému vývoji a teorii her ze sociologického hlediska, přičemž zkoumá, jak videohry přispívají k formování společenských struktur a norem. Druhá část analyzuje konkrétní sociální a kulturní dopady videoher, včetně jejich vlivu na popkulturu, sociální interakce, identitu jedince a komunikační procesy v herních komunitách.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis examines the societal impacts of video games from a sociological perspective. The aim of this thesis is to demonstrate that video games possess a broad social significance that extends beyond mere entertainment. The thesis is divided into two main sections. The first section focuses on the historical development and theory of games from a sociological standpoint, exploring how video games contribute to the formation of social structures and norms. The second section analyzes specific social and cultural impacts of video games, including their influence on pop culture, social interactions, individual identity, and communication processes within gaming communities
