The use of social networks in teaching English

Abstract:

Anotace Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem sociálních sítí a možnosti jejich využití v rámci výuky anglického jazyka. Jejím cílem je zjistit, jak vnímají učitelé středních škol vyučující anglický jazyk zapojení sociálních sítí do výuky, a to zejména s důrazem na dnešní moderní dobu. Za tímto účelem je práce rozdělena na teoretickou a empirickou část. V teoretické části práce sociální sítě definujeme, charakterizujeme a podáváme o nich stručný přehled, dále upozorňujeme na potřebu a významnost jejich využití ve vzdělávání. Zaměřujeme se na dostupnost informační a komunikační technologie na školách a popisujeme přínos a rozvoj komunikačních a jazykových dovedností studentů pomocí sociálních sítí ve výuce anglického jazyka. V empirické části je proveden kvantitativní výzkum formou dotazníkového šetření, který si klade za cíl získat zpětnou vazbu od učitelů středních škol na sociální sítě a ověřit tak jejich názory, jak učitelé vnímají sociální sítě, a také jejich využití v rámci vyučování anglického jazyka.

Abstract:

Annotation This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of the use of social networks in teaching English. Its aim is to give a brief overview and to evaluate the necessity and significance of social networks in learning and teaching English, especially with an emphasis on contemporary modern day, including the perception of social networks by English language teachers. For this purpose, the thesis is divided into a theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part of the thesis represents and characterizes social networks and their connection to education. Furthermore, the work focuses on the availability of information and communication technology at schools and describes the contribution and development of communication and language skills of students through social media. In the empirical part, quantitative research is presented in a form of a questionnaire survey based on feedback related to the social network and the opinions obtained by the high school English teachers. The aim is to gain feedback and verify views from the high school teachers on social networks and the use of social networks in teaching English.
