The importance of work in the process of treatment of convicts who are serving a sentence of imprisonment.

Abstract:

Tématem práce je ?Význam práce v procesu zacházení s odsouzenými ve VTOS?. Cílem práce je nastínit jednak částečně některé historické mezníky vývoje v oblasti výkonu trestu, ale především se zaměřit na význam zaměstnávání osob odsouzených k trestu odnětí svobody. Pro naplnění cíle zvoleného tématu práce byla využita jednak dostupná dokumentace ze zdrojů Vězeňské služby ČR a dále mi poskytnuté informace pracovníky této organizační složky státu. Cenné byly také rozhovory s odsouzenými s tresty odnětí svobody delšími jak deset let, kteří po celou dobu výkonu trestu pracovali, ale také s těmi, kteří o práci zájem nejevili a do práce nebyli zařazeni nikdy nebo zanedbatelnou dobu. Jejich názory byly určující pro vytvoření závěru, který z práce vyplynul. Uvedené prameny pak umožnily vyslovit přesvědčení o nezastupitelnosti zaměstnávání vězňů v procesu zacházení a cíl práce se podařilo do značné míry splnit. Lze uzavřít, že při ještě hlubším zkoumání dané problematiky, využití zkušeností pracovníků vězeňské služby a dalším výzkumu, mohou být závěry a výsledky využity nejen pro další teoretickou práci, ale taktéž jako nástin směru, kterým by se zaměstnávání odsouzených mělo v budoucnu ubírat.

Abstract:

The theme of this thesis is " The importance of work in the process of treatment of convicts who are serving a sentence of imprisonment." The aim of this thesis is to partly outline some of historical turning-points in the area of execution of a punishment, but first of all to focus on the importance of employment of imprisoned convicts. In connection with fulfilment of chosen theme I had to partly read through available documentation, that was granted for me from the sources of the Prison Service of the Czech Republic and consequently to make use of willingness of workers in Prison Service, who supplied a lot of very worth information to me. Information helped me to fully understand questions of implementation of manipulating programmes and the importance of work and employment during execution of imprisonment. I was allowed to speak to convicts with punishments longer than 10 years, who have been working all the time during execution of imprisonment, but also with those convicts, who have not been interested in work and have never been included in working process or only for insignificant period of time. From my point of view their opinions are decisive for making of conclusion that results from this thesis. I suppose that I managed to gain strong argument (both from historical and contemporary point of view) to express conviction about importance of employment of prisoners in the process of manipulating, therefore the aim of this thesis was largely accomplished. I also think, that in the case of deeper research of these problems, in conjunction with usage of experience of employees in prison service, the results could be used not only for another theoretical works, but also as an outline of a way, where the employment of convicts should lead to the future.
