Publishers webpage and the journal description: how to persuade and attract readers by constructing journal´s character (aim, scope, readership) and contribution.

Abstract:

This thesis has two major purposes: (1) to present the genre analysis of the newly emerging genres evolving among the Internet texts (2) to demonstrate the persuasive techniques used on the publisher´s websites. The theoretical part of the paper draws on the genre theory focusing on the newly emerging genres presented in the Internet utterance. The practical part analyzes the web pages of four publisher companies with aim to investigate the persuasive techniques used in this setting. The investigation follows Askehave and Nielsen´s two-dimensional approach: the navigating and the reading mode. The results reveal that the similarities between the web and printed texts are in approaching the potential buyer with the usage of the persuasive language, whereas huge nuances are in the way the purchaser is navigated to the product. On the basis of the results of this research, it can be concluded that both of those approaches have their significance and that both of them are highly supplementing each other.

Abstract:

Tato práce má dva hlavní cíle: (1) představit žánrovou analýzu nově se objevujících Internetových žánrů, (2) předvést fungování přesvědčovacích technik nakladatelských webů. Teoretická část práce se zaměřuje na žánrovou analýzu a pracuje s tzv. nově se objevujícími žánry vznikajícími na Internetu. Praktická část práce analyzuje konkrétní weby čtyř nakladatelských společností se záměrem popsat, jakým způsobem fungují přesvědčovací techniky v tomto prostředí. Výzkum pracuje s tzv. dvoustupňovým modelem: navigačním a čtecím. Výsledky odhalily, že použití přesvědčovacích technik za účelem přiblížení se k zákazníkovi fungují na podobných principech jako v tištěných formách podobných textů, avšak rozdílné přístupy byly zjištěny v navigaci zákazníka ke konkrétnímu produktu. Na základě těchto výsledků je možné dojít k závěru, že oba modely ? jak navigační, tak čtecí ? mají svůj význam a také že se oba navzájem velmi ovlivňují.
