Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá tématem polapení v knize Johna Fowlese Sběratel. Úvodní část přiblíží život a dílo autora, spolu s okolnostmi vzniku probíraného románu. Analytická část je rozdělena do čtyř podkapitol, jejichž cílem je ukázat, jakým způsobem je v románu zpracováno téma polapení. První podkapitola vyobrazuje metaforické polapení v sociálních třídách. Další podkapitola se soustředí na sběratelství a s tím spojené polapení v mentalitě sběratelů. Po této části následuje popis fyzického polapení a téma izolace. Poslední část práce zkoumá uvěznění čtenářů ve dvou verzích příběhu.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the topic of entrapment in John Fowles’ The Collector. The introductory part presents the life and work of the author, together with circumstances relating to the formation of this novel. The analytical part is divided into four subchapters and its aim is to point out how the theme of entrapment is depicted in the novel. The first subchapter delineates the metaphorical entrapment in social classes. Next subchapter focuses on collecting, linked to the entrapment in collector mentality. This is followed by the description of physical entrapment and isolation. The final section then examines the entrapment of the readers in two version of the story.
