THE EVALUATION OF PRAGUE´S SIGNAL FESTIVAL´S IMPACT ON THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE TOURISM REGION

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá hodnocením dopadů pořádání Signal festivalu v Praze v letech 2013 a 2014 na regionální rozvoj regionu Hlavního města Prahy a regionu České republiky, a to z ekonomického, sociálního a kulturního pohledu. V teoretické části je kladen důraz na vysvětlení problematiky cestovního ruchu se zaměřením na event tourism a kulturní eventy. Analýza kvantitativních dat v praktické části dokládá, že festival je z hlediska účastníků úspěšný. Návštěvnost Prahy během festivalu je vyšší než během jiného srovnatelného období a Signal festival má zásadní vliv na rozhodování účastníků navštívit Prahu, z čehož lze deduktivně dovodit, že festival podporuje cestovní ruch regionu. Výpočetní výstupy práce dokazují, že finanční příspěvek Magistrátu na Signal festival 2014 je zprostředkovaně prostřednictvím příjmů do státního rozpočtu i prostřednictvím přímých ekonomických přínosů do místních veřejných rozpočtů rentabilní. Empirické šetření prokazuje pozitivní vliv festivalu na kulturní život regionu, na vnímání veřejného prostoru rezidenty Prahy a na udržitelný rozvoj regionu cestovního ruchu.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on evaluation of Prague's Signal festival, organized in 2013 and 2015, and it's impact on regional development in Prague and the Czech Republic as a whole, from economic, social and cultural stand point. The theoretical part puts emphasis on explanation of tourism, specifically event tourism, and cultural events. Quantitative data analysis in practical part proves that the festival was successful in bringing in higher number of visitors of the city. The number of visitors throughout the duration of the festival was higher than during comparable time periods and that Signal festival was clearly a decisive factor for visits, which allows us to draw conclusion that the festival supports tourism in the region. Calculations presented in this thesis prove that city council's financial contribution to 2014 Signal festival indirectly contributed to national budget as well as direct economic contributions to regional budgets, due to increased spending by visitors and other economic activity. Empirical examination demonstrates festival's positive impact on region's cultural life, better perception of public spaces by residents and the sustainable development of tourism region.
