Retirement communities as an example of active ageing?

Abstract:

Ve své bakalářské práci „Seniorská městečka jako vzor aktivního stárnutí“ jsem pomocí analýzy webových stránek komunit pro aktivní a nezávislé seniory ve Spojených státech amerických zkoumala, zda je životní způsob, kterým zde senioři žijí, naplněním konceptu aktivního stárnutí. Při analýze popisu komunit jsem se zaměřila na 4 oblasti, které plynou ze zásad aktivního stárnutí. Jde o prodlužování participace na trhu práce, vztah seniora s rodinou, aktivně trávený volný čas sportem a dalšími koníčky a sociální inkluzi seniorů. Ukázalo se, že seniorská městečka nabízí seniorům bezpečné a pohodlné bydlení v krásném prostředí, kde se senioři mohou v klidu věnovat od rána do večera mnoha sportovním aktivitám jako tenisu, plavání, golfu, mají možnost jezdit na výlety, navštěvovat různá kulturní představení a vést v rámci komunity bohatý společenský život. Nicméně vztahy s rodinou se u seniorů žijících v komunitách ukázaly jako nedostatečné a dále se ukázalo, že pracovní činnost se zde předpokládá pouze na úrovni dobrovolnické či charitativní činnosti.

Abstract:

The Bachelor´s thesis “ Retirement communities as an example of active ageing?” deals with a research of selected web pages of communities for active and independent seniors in the United States of America. I explored whether a concept of active aging is fulfilled in a lifestyle. I focused on 4 areas when analysing a description of communities. The areas arise from the principles of active aging. It is lengthening labour market participation, a senior relationship with a family, leisure time activities such as playing sports and other hobbies and social inclusion of the seniors. It proved that senior towns offer a safe and comfortable living in a beautiful environment. Seniors can go in for many outdoor activities such as tennis, swimming, golf, going on trips, attend various performances and have a rich social life here. However, a family and a senior relationship is proved to be inadequate and a working activity is presupposed here only as voluntary or charitable work.
