Analysis of questionnaire data on precarity in Czech business: comparison of SEM and LRM results

Abstract:

Diplomová práce představuje jednu z prvních analýz dat sesbíraných v rámci projektu Prekarita jako reálná zkušenost sebezaměstnaných a mikropodniků, podporovaného TA ČR. Empirickým cílem práce je prvotní očištění, úprava a agregace dat, následně pak odhad pomocí lineární regrese a modelů strukturálních rovnic za účelem zjištění vlivu různých faktorů na prekérní aspekty podnikání, jimiž jsou například oblast financí, strach z udržitelnosti podnikání, ale také dopad koronavirové pandemie na ekonomickou činnost. Důraz je kladen především na odlišnost nejistoty a spokojenosti sebezaměstnaných na základě pohlaví. Analýza zjišťuje statisticky významný výraznější dopad prekarity na ženy oproti mužům u většiny měřených faktorů. Dále je sledován rozdíl mezi prekaritou spojednou s novými podnikatelskými aktivitami, zahájenými po roce 2018, oproti dlouhodobě zaběhlým. Zde se ukázal významný rozdíl především u proměnné sledující strach z budoucnosti podnikání, který dle očekávání více pociťují právě začínající podnikatelé. Z metodologického hlediska práce porovnává výsledky dle použité statistické metody. Bylo zjištěno, že jsou výsledky obou sledovaných metod srovnatelné, v mnoha případech se ukazuje identický vliv faktorů na dané aspekty prekarity. Na základě provedených porovnání lze pro účely následných analýz výzkumného projektu učinit závěr, že je možné využít jednodušších regresních technik, aniž by byly ovlivněny výsledky

Abstract:

The thesis presents one of the first analyses of the data collected for the project named Precarity as a real experience of self-employed and micro-enterprises, supported by Technology Agency of the Czech Republic. The empirical aim of the thesis is the initial cleaning, adjustment and aggregation of the data. followed by estimation using linear regression and structural equation models to determine the impact of various factors on precarious aspects of entrepreneurship. The factors are for example from the area of finance and fear of business stability, as well as the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on economic activity. The main focus is on gender differences in insecurity and self-employment satisfaction. The analysis finds a statistically significant greater impact of precarity on women compared to men for the majority of factors measured. Compared are also the differences between and precarity associated with new entrepreneurial activities started after 2018 and long-established ones. A significant difference is found, especially for the factor tracking fear of the future of the business. As expected, it is felt more by those just entering the business. From a methodological point of view, the paper compares the results according to the statistical method used. It was found that the results of the two methods studied are similar, in many cases showing identical influence of factors on the given aspects of precarity. For the purpose of subsequent analyses of the research project it can be concluded that simpler regression techniques can be used without affecting the results. This conclusion was based on the comparisons made.
