The influence of the chess game on the development of thinking and learning of pupils of younger school age

Abstract:

Diplomová práce pojednává o tom, zda podle mínění hráčů a lektorů, může výuka šachů ovlivnit myšlení, učení, a s tím související formování vlastností osobnosti žáků, případně jakým způsobem. Poukazuje na to, jak by šachová hra mohla přispět k naplnění cílů základního vzdělávání, klíčových kompetencí a průřezových témat. Dále byl výzkum zaměřen na zjišťování negativ šachové hry a vhodnosti výuky šachů ve školách. Sběr dat byl proveden formou online dotazníkového šetření ve školách, na kterých se žáci učí šachové hře. Většina dotazovaných žáků a lektorů uvedla, že šachy pozitivně ovlivňují myšlení, učení i formování vlastností osobnosti. Nejvíce podle nich šachy ovlivňují výkony v matematice. Negativa šachové hry spatřují v nadměrném stresu a frustraci z proher. Většina žáků i lektorů se domnívá, že by se šachy na základních školách měly vyučovat.

Abstract:

The thesis examines whether, according to the opinion of players and lecturers, teaching the game of chess can influence thinking, learning, and related formation of personality traits of students, and in what way. It points out how the game of chess could contribute to the fulfillment of the objectives of basic education, key competencies, and cross-cutting themes. Furthermore, the research was aimed at identifying the negatives of the game of chess and the suitability of teaching chess in schools. The data collection was carried out in the form of an online questionnaire in schools where students learn the game of chess. The majority of participating students and teachers stated that chess positively influences thinking, learning, and the formation of personality traits. According to them, chess influences performance in mathematics the most. Participatns see the negatives of chess in excessive stress and frustration from losing chess games. The majority of students and lecturers believe that chess should be taught in primary schools.
