Possibilities of Cognitive Rehabilitation in Seniors Suffering from some Form of Dementia

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je identifikovat změny u seniorů, kteří v rámci longitudinálního výzkumu podstoupili kognitivně rehabilitační intervenci, oproti seniorům zařazených do kontrolní skupiny. Na to navazuje i návrh několika doporučení do praxe z pohledu sociální pedagogiky. První část diplomové práce předkládá důležité teoretické poznatky týkající se stárnutí a stáří, kognitivním funkcím u seniorů a možnostem kognitivní rehabilitace u osob s demencí. Je proto důležité se zabývat obecně i demencí, neboť na tuto kategorii respondentů se zaměřuje dlouhodobý výzkum v praktické části práce. Výzkum je uskutečněn v nemocničním a sociálním zařízení, kde část respondentů podstoupí kognitivní rehabilitaci, část z nich však nikoliv, a je označována jako kontrolní skupina. Vzájemným porovnáním výsledků ve dvou testech (MMSE, Barthelův test) bylo možno prokázat, zda došlo k signifikantnímu zlepšení po provedené kognitivní rehabilitaci či nikoliv. Na to naváže i kapitola diskuse výsledků a verifikace stanovených hypotéz.

Abstract:

The aim of this diploma thesis is to identify changes in seniors who underwent cognitive rehabilitation intervention in longitudinal research, compared to seniors included in the control group. This is followed by a proposal for several recommendations for practice from the perspective of social pedagogy. The first part of the diploma thesis presents important theoretical knowledge about aging and old age, cognitive functions in the elderly and the possibilities of cognitive rehabilitation in people with dementia. It is therefore important to deal with dementia in general, as long-term research in the practical part of the work focuses on this category of respondents. The research is carried out in a hospital and social facility, where some respondents undergo cognitive rehabilitation, but some of them do not, and is referred to as a control group. By comparing the results in two tests (MMSE, Barthel's test) it was possible to prove whether there was a significant improvement after cognitive rehabilitation or not. This will be followed by a chapter on the discussion of results and verification of established hypotheses.
