Referential questions in teaching English to adult learners.

Abstract:

Tématem této bakalářské práce jsou stimulační otázky kladené učitelem při komunikativně zaměřené výuce jazyků. V úvodu jsem se nejprve věnovala metodám a cílům výuky při jazykovém vzdělávání a také technice a strategiím kladení otázek. Potom jsem se zaměřila na různá kritéria členění otázek a vymezila jsem učitelskou otázku se zřetelem k výzkumnému šetření. Dále jsem provedla rozdělení otázek do skupin pro potřeby výzkumného šetření, charakterizovala jsem výzkumný vzorek a stručně nastínila strukturu jednotlivých vyučovacích hodin v šetření použitých. Hlavní část této práce je věnována kvalitativní a kvantitativní analýze výskytu stimulačních otázek v hodinách komunikativně zaměřeného vyučování v kontrastu k dalším typům otázek, které jsou pro potřeby práce označeny jako ostatní. Při kvalitativní analýze jsem provedla kompletní rozbor jedné vyučovací hodiny, kde je na mnoha příkladech ilustrován výskyt různých typů otázek a rozebrány důvody pro užití těchto otázek v konkrétní části hodiny. Dále je proveden rozbor výskytu stimulačních otázek v dalších třech vyučovacích hodinách, ze kterého vyplynulo, že stimulační otázky se v průběhu vyučovací hodiny vyskytují v blocích. Kvantitativní analýza se pak zaměřuje na délku odpovědí studentů na stimulační otázky v kontrastu s délkou odpovědí na ostatní otázky. Kvantitativní analýza potvrdila počáteční hypotézu, že odpověď na stimulační otázky je významně delší než na jiné typy otázek. V závěru práce jsou shrnuty výsledky výzkumných šetření a provedeno doporučení pro studenty Akcent college týkající se využití stimulačních otázek při výukové praxi.

Abstract:

The main issue of this bachelor thesis deals with stimulation questions asked by the teacher within the communicative language teaching. The first part of the thesis is focused on methods and aims in teaching languages as well as on the techniques and strategies of asking questions. In the following section, I focused on various criteria of question classification. There, I also defined the teacher perspectives in context of the thesis. Furthermore, the questions types were outlined for the thesis research. The research sample was introduced as well as the structure of individual lessons within this research. The main part of this thesis focuses on contrast of the qualitative and quantitative analysis of stimulation questions occurrence within communicative-oriented lessons on one side and “Other” types of questions asked on the other. The non-stimulative questions to be referred to as “Other” types of questions within this thesis. Within the qualitative analysis, I analysed one class unit in many examples to illustrate the occurrence of various question types in each lesson stage. The reasons for using such varieties of questions were described in context of individual lesson stages. Furthermore, the occurrence of Stimulation questions in three more classes is analyses resulted into the findings that the Stimulation questions occur in blocks. The quantitative analysis targets the length of the students' answers to the Stimulation questions, compared to the length of answers to the Other question types. The quantitative analyses have proven the primer hypotheses; as followed: The answers to the Stimulation questions occur as remarkably longer than answers to Other question types. The final part summarizes the results of the research to provide students of Akcent College with suggested recommendation for the use of Stimulation questions in their teaching practice.
