Staphylococcus aureus je oportunní patogen, jehož klinický význam roste spolu s jeho zvyšující se rezistencí na používaná antibiotika. Staphylococcus aureus is an opportunistic pathogen and it's clinical importance increases with the growing resistance to antibiotics. It is present among a portion of the population as a skin colonizer but may cause fatal infections to individuals with weakened immunity systems.
