Anotace:

Cílem této práce je analyzovat vyobrazení původních obyvatel Severní Ameriky v muzeích v USA a ukázat, jaký vliv tato vyobrazení mají na jejich život. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části, aby poskytla hlubší přehled o dané problematice. První teoretický oddíl se věnuje historii muzeí a reprezentaci původních obyvatel Severní Ameriky zachycené v umění. Druhá část je analytická a uvádí čtyři příklady uměleckých děl od dvou novodobých indiánských umělců. Zjištění této práce ukazují, že předložená umělecká díla pomáhají zpochybnit koloniální verzi historie tím, že do dominantního narativu vkládají domorodé tradice a perspektivy.

Abstract:

This thesis aims to analyze the representations of Native Americans in U.S. museums and the implications this has on Native American lives. It is divided into two sections to deliver a more in-depth overview of the subject matter. The first section provides a theoretical background to the history of museums and the representations of Native Americans reflected in art. The second one is analytical and consists of four examples of artworks from two contemporary Native American artists. The thesis argues that these artworks help challenge the colonial version of history by inserting Indigenous traditions and perspectives into the narrative.
