Form and function of reported speech in selected German texts of journalistic style

Abstract:

This Diploma thesis deals with the usage of indirect speech in German written press that originated in the federal state of Bavaria. The research is mainly focused on usage of the German Konjunktiv to express the indirect speech. The main objective is to find out how much is the indirect speech represented in selected articles about the current events in the federal state of Bavaria. The objective of this Diploma thesis is also to compare the occurrence of direct and indirect speech, other forms of expression of the indirect speech as well as the occurrence of forms of the German Konjunktiv in main and subordinate clauses. The indirect speech in the form of Konjunktiv is presented in a table and counted based on the type of the Konjunktiv. The count of both types of Konjunktiv is then compared and statistically expressed by using a chart. Afterwards are compared other aspects addressed in the analysis, that are connected to indirect speech. The first part of the Diploma thesis is dedicated to the theory of German Konjunktiv and indirect speech. This part also includes a chapter on the characteristics of the journalistic language. The second part deals with the occurrence of indirect speech in the German written press and includes the analysis of its own research. The conclusion summarizes the results of the research.

Abstract:

Téma této diplomové práce pojednává o použití nepřímé řeči v německy psaných novinových článcích bavorského tisku. Autorka se zaměřuje především na užití německého konjunktivu k vyjádření nepřímé řeči. Cílem práce je zjistit, v jaké míře je nepřímá řeč zastoupena ve vybraných článcích, které se zaměřují na aktuální dění v německé spolkové zemi Bavorsko. Tato práce se rovněž zaměřuje na porovnání výskytu přímé a nepřímé řeči, konkurenčních forem nepřímé řeči a výskytu konjunktivu v jednoduchých, hlavních a vedlejších větách. Vyhledaná nepřímá řeč vyjádřená pomocí konjunktivu je uvedena do tabulky a následně sečtena dle druhu konjunktivu. Počet obou druhů německého konjunktivu je porovnán a statisticky vyjádřen pomocí tabulky a grafu. Následně jsou porovnávány i další jmenované aspekty, které souvisí s nepřímou řečí. První část práce je věnována teorii o německém konjunktivu a nepřímé řeči. V této části je rovněž uvedena kapitola týkající se charakteristických znaků publicistického stylu. Druhá část pojednává o výskytu této formy reprodukce výpovědi v německy psaném bavorském tisku a obsahuje samotnou analýzu vlastního zkoumání. V závěru jsou uvedeny výsledky rešerše.
