Plant adaptations in drylands: the analyses of radial growth, plant age and storage carbohydrates

Abstract:

This study examines plant adaptations and responses to climate change in selected taxa growing along thermal and hydrologic gradients from warm deserts to temperate grasslands in the western United States. By examining ecological responses through anatomical growth, age analysis, and proportion of stored non-structural carbohydrates, the study will provide new insights into the evolution of plant adaptations and the determinants of growth responses to heat and drought. Plant species used for this study were collected in the Western United States' dryland ecosystems. The anatomical growth, age analysis, and non-structural carbohydrate were analysed at the Třeboň department of the Institute of Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
