The issue of carpal tunnel syndrome

Abstract:

Úvod: Karpální syndrom, často nazývaný syndrom karpálního tunelu, je stav způsobený tlakem na nerv medianus, který prochází karpálním tunelem, úzkou štěrbinou v zápěstí. Tento tlak může způsobit řadu nepříjemných symptomů, včetně bolesti, brnění, slabosti nebo necitlivosti v rukou a prstech. Někdy se může projevovat i jako pálení nebo štípání. Cíl práce: Cílem této bakalářské práce je zjistit informovanost a povědomí o syndromu karpálního tunelu mezi studenty Univerzity Jana Evangelisty Purkyně v Ústí nad Labem a přispět ke zlepšení informovanosti o této problematice. Metodika: Teoretická část práce se obecně v základní rovině zaměřuje na etiologii onemocnění, prevenci, symptomatologii neboli klinické příznaky, možnosti diagnostiky a způsob konzervativní i operativní léčby a případných pooperačních komplikací na bázi četby odborné literatury z oblasti lékařských i nelékařských oborů. Praktická část práce se skládá z kvantitativního výzkumu ve formě dotazníkového šetření u studentů rozmanitého věkového rozmezí univerzity Jana Evangelisty Purkyně v Ústí nad Labem, kde respondenti odpovídali na otázky, týkající se jejich informovanosti ohledně syndromu karpálního tunelu.

Abstract:

Introduction: Carpal tunnel syndrome, often called carpal tunnel syndrome, is a condition caused by pressure on the median nerve that passes through the carpal tunnel, a narrow slit in the wrist. This pressure can cause a range of unpleasant symptoms, including pain, tingling, weakness or numbness in the hands and fingers. Sometimes it can also manifest as burning or pinching. The objective: The aim of this bachelor thesis is to determine the awareness of carpal tunnel syndrome among the students of Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem and to improve the awareness of this issue. Methodology: The theoretical part of the thesis generally focuses on the aetiology of the disease, pre-prevention, symptomatology or clinical symptoms, diagnostic options and the method of conservative and operative treatment and possible postoperative complications based on the reading of the literature from medical and non-medical fields. The practical part of the thesis consists of quantitative research in the form of a questionnaire survey of students of different age ranges at the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, where respondents answered questions concerning their awareness of carpal tunnel syndrome
