Henry Fielding and the Philosophy of Morals
Abstract:
The thesis proposes to analyse some of the 18th century philosophical concepts which Anthony Ashley Cooper expressed in his Characteristics, and, by the method of contrasting the main characters in the novel Tom Jones and by analysing the differences and parallels between them, prove that the philosophical concept of Shaftesbury influenced Henry Fielding in his writing of Tom Jones.
