Freedom of movement and safety in the care of clients with dementia in nursing homes and special care homes: challenges and solutions

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na téma péče o klienty s demencí v domovech pro seniory a domovech se zvláštním režimem. Cílem práce je analyzovat a zhodnotit, jakým způsobem jsou v těchto zařízeních řešeny otázky bezpečnosti a zabezpečení volnosti pohybu klientů s demencí. V teoretické části práce jsou vymezeny základní pojmy a informace související s demencí a péčí o klienty s demencí v domovech pro seniory a domovech se zvláštním režimem. V praktické části práce jsou provedeny kvalitativní výzkumy pomocí dotazníků a rozhovorů s ředitelem, pracovníky a klienty v několika vybraných domovech pro seniory a domovech se zvláštním režimem. Na základě získaných dat jsou prezentovány konkrétní způsoby, jak jsou v jednotlivých zařízeních řešeny otázky bezpečnosti a zabezpečení volnosti pohybu klientů. Výsledkem této diplomové práce jsou doporučení a návrhy, jakým způsobem by mohly být vylepšeny stávající postupy a strategie v zařízeních pro péči o klienty s demencí, aby byla zajištěna co nejvyšší kvalita péče a bezpečnosti pro tyto osoby. Tato práce může být užitečná pro pracovníky v zařízeních pro péči o seniory, odborníky na demenci a pro širokou veřejnost, kteří se zajímají o tuto oblast.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the care of clients with dementia in nursing homes and homes with special care needs. The aim of the thesis is to analyse and evaluate how the safety and security issues of clients with dementia are addressed in these facilities. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the basic concepts and information related to dementia and care of clients with dementia in homes for the elderly and homes with special arrangements. In the practical part of the thesis, qualitative research is conducted using questionnaires and interviews with the director, staff and clients in several selected homes for the elderly and homes with special arrangements. On the basis of the data collected, specific ways in which safety and security issues are addressed in each facility are presented. As a result of this thesis, recommendations and suggestions are made as to how current practices and strategies in facilities for the care of clients with dementia could be improved to ensure the highest quality of care and safety for these individuals. This thesis may be useful to staff in aged care facilities, dementia professionals and the general public who are interested in this area.
