The Victorian England in literary works for adolescent and adult readers

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce Viktoriánská Anglie v literární tvorbě pro adolescentní a dospělé čtenáře je analýza děl Nancy Springer a Michela Fabera. Práce se zaměřuje na chování ženských postav, které je zobrazeno v kontextu dobových společenských pravidel viktoriánské společnosti. Hlavní motivy, které práce posuzuje, jsou vzdor románových postav vůči patriarchálnímu postavení mužů, boj proti morálním principům, předsudkům a v neposlední řadě i boj za vzdělání a ženská práva. Tyto společné aspekty a souvislosti budeme hledat ve dvou dílech, přičemž Nancy Springerová zastupuje literaturu zaměřenou na adolescentní čtenáře a Michel Faber zastupuje literaturu určenou čtenáři dospělému.

Abstract:

The aim of my thesis The Victorian England in literary works for adolescents and adult readers is to analyze literaly works of Nancy Springer and Michel Faber. We focus our attention on female characters and their position in sociaty in relation to the historical and social background. The main themes are revolt of fictional characters against the patriarchal status of women, the fight against moral principles, prejudices and the struggle for women's rights and education. We will look for these common aspects and the context, in two contemporary novels. At first in works of Nancy Springer which represents literature for adolescent readers and second in works of Michel Faber which represents literature for adult readers
