The potential of the literary text "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" by J. K. Rowling to develop writing language skills in teaching German as a foreign language

Abstract:

This thesis examines the possibilities of how work with literary texts of children's literature can be included in the teaching of German as a foreign language in Czech primary schools. The aim of this thesis is to describe the didactic potential of the excerpt from the literary text "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" for the development of productive speech writing skills. The theoretical part of the thesis is devoted to the characteristics of the A1 level writing skill in teaching, emphasizing the role of literary texts from the field of children's literature and their selection according to specified criteria such as the theme and length of the text, the age of the pupils, their interests and others. These texts allow this competence to be developed through specific strategies and tasks such as formulating a review or a letter to the author. To achieve the stated goal, an action research, described in more detail in the empirical section, was carried out, the focus of which was to describe the potential of the proposed didactics to develop writing skills. The necessary data for evaluating the didactic potential in relation to the set criteria such as language level or comprehensibility were collected from specific pupils through a questionnaire, from the German teacher through interview and from my observations. The collected data was evaluated at the end of the thesis through content analysis and simple descriptive statistics. The results of the action research were summarised, interpreted and discussed at the end of the thesis with a view to their use in practice.

Abstract:

Předložená diplomová práce se zabývá možnostmi, jak může být práce s literárními texty dětské literatury zahrnuta do výuky němčiny jako cizího jazyka na českých základních školách. Cílem práce je popsat, jaký didaktický potenciál pro rozvoj produktivní řečové dovednosti psaní skrývá úryvek literárního textu „Harry Potter a kámen mudrců“. Teoretická část práce se věnuje charakteristice dovednosti psaní na úrovni A1 ve výuce, přičemž se zdůrazňuje role literárních textů z oblasti dětské literatury a jejich výběr dle stanovených kritérií jako je téma a délka textu, věk žáků, jejich zájmy a další. Tyto texty totiž umožňují prostřednictvím konkrétních strategií a úkolů jako např. formulace recenze nebo dopisu autorovi tuto kompetenci rozvíjet. Pro dosažení stanoveného cíle byl proveden akční výzkum, blíže popsaný v empirické části, jehož těžištěm bylo popsání potenciálu navržené didaktizace k rozvoji dovednosti psaní. Potřebná data pro vyhodnocení didaktického potenciálu ve vztahu ke stanoveným kritériím jako je např. jazyková úroveň nebo srozumitelnost byla získána od konkrétních žáků prostřednictvím dotazníku, od vyučující němčiny skrze interview a na základě mého pozorování. Získaná data byla v závěru práce skrze obsahovou analýzu a jednoduchou deskriptivní statistiku vyhodnocena. Výsledky akčního výzkumu byly v závěru práce shrnuty, interpretovány a prodiskutovány s ohledem na jejich využití v praxi.
