Sensory integration therapy for children with autism spectrum disorders

Abstract:

Souhrn Název práce: Senzorická integrační terapie u dětí s poruchami autistického spektra Cíl: Cílem práce je přispět k řešení problematiky senzorické integrační terapie u dětského klienta s poruchou autistického spektra. Metodika: Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí první část je teoretická, popisující problematiku diagnózy poruch autistického spektra a koncept senzorické integrace, druhá je tvořená kazuistikou chlapce s dětským autismem. Za účelem získání informací o klientovi jsem využila jeho lékařské anamnézy. Vyšetření byla prováděna za pomoci pozorování a testování. K vyšetření klienta jsem použila následující standardizované testy: Test klinické observace, Jižně- kalifornské testy SI a Test motoriky pro děti MABC-2. V terapii byl zohledněn také dotazník senzomotorického vývoje vyplněný rodiči klienta. V rámci intervence jsem využívala prvky senzorické integrace a speciálně vybavenou tělocvičnu pro SI. Terapie byly zvolené formou hry. Výsledky: Došlo k výraznému zlepšení překračování středové osy těla v rámci testování Jižně-kalifornských testů (z hodnoty -2,7 na -0,8) a zlepšení pravolevé orientace. Mírný posun je patrný v hrubé motorice dle dosažených hodnot Testu motoriky MABC-2 (z percentilu 5 na 9). Nepatrné zlepšení jsem zaznamenala ve vestibulárním aparátu v rámci měření délky času postrotačního nystagmu (z 11s na 12s). Závěr: Psaním této bakalářské práce jsem si rozšířila vědomosti z oblasti diagnózy PAS a její intervence pomocí senzorické integrační terapie.

Abstract:

Summary Name of thesis: Sensory integration therapy for children with autism spectrum disorders Target: The aim of the thesis is to contribute to solving the issue of sensory integration therapy for a child client with autism spectrum disorder. Methodology: The thesis is divided into two parts - the first part is theoretical, describing the diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorders and the concept of sensory integration, the second part is made by case report of a boy with child autism. In order to get information about the client I used his medical history. The examination was performed with observation and testing. For the client's examination, I used the following standardized tests: Clinical Observation Test, Southern California SI Tests and MABC-2. The therapy also included a questionnaire of sensorimotor development completed by the parent of the client. In the framework of the intervention, I used sensory integration elements and a specially equipped gym for SI. Therapies were chosen as a game. Results: There has been a significant improvement in crossing the center axis of body as part of Southern California testing (from -2.7 to -0.8) and improved right-left- handed orientation. A slight shift is evident in the gross motor skills according to the achieved values of the MABC-2 Test (from the percentile 5 to 9). A slight improvement was observed in the vestibular apparatus as part of measuring the length of postrotational nystagmus (from 11s to 12s). Conclusion: Writing this bachelor thesis I expanded the knowledge of PAS diagnosis and its intervention through sensory integration therapy.
