Variability of groundwater flow in small drainage basins

Abstract:

Podzemní voda je nenahraditelným přírodním bohatstvím. Lidská společnost si už dávno uvědomila její význam a snaží se ji co nejvíce a racionálně využívat. Nástrojem jak toho lze dosáhnout je cílevědomý hydrogeologický průzkum. Tato disertační práce nabízí přehled metod, pomocí kterých lze hydrogeologický průzkum provádět. Z těchto metod byla vybrána termometrie povrchových toků a metoda postupných profilových průtoků, které byly aplikovány v malých povodích do 20 km2. Konkrétně se jedná o Bunčovský potok (Morava), Radiměřský potok (Svitava) a potok Sloupečník (Svitava). Každé z těchto povodí odvodňuje horniny odlišného vývoje a stáří. Bunčovský potok drénuje flyšové horniny paleogénního stáří, Radiměřský potok křídové pískovce a slínovce a potok Sloupečník krystalinické horniny proterozoického stáří. V zájmových povodích byly rozlišeny dva typy reliéfu (strmý a plochý) na základě relativního převýšení v definovaném čtverci. Disertační práce potvrdila, že termometrie povrchových toků a metoda postupných profilových průtoků jsou vhodným nástrojem pro výzkum podzemních vod v malých povodích. Termometrie povrchových toků využívá měření teploty vody a její elektrické vodivosti v zimním období, kdy teploty klesají hluboko pod bod mrazu. Pomocí termometrie povrchových toků byl popsán drenážní potenciál hornin, rychlost a hloubka proudění v závislosti na zkoumaných faktorech (typ reliéfu, litologie a tektonika). Metoda postupných profilových průtoků vychází z hydrometrování v postupných měrných profilech a na základě získaných dat jsou vytvořeny čáry postupných profilových průtoků a postupných profilových specifických podzemních odtoků. Tato metoda umožnila identifikovat vliv výše uvedených faktorů na proměnlivost specifického podzemního odtoku v zájmových povodích. Vliv reliéfu na proměnlivost specifického podzemního odtoku nebyl pomocí metody postupných profilových průtoků prokázán. Byla vytvořena mapa proměnlivosti specifického podzemního odtoku v zájmových povodích. Byly identifikovány ztrátové a ziskové části povodí a prokázána návaznost průtoku v povrchových tocích na změny specifického podzemního odtoku.

Abstract:

Groundwater is one of the essential and irreplaceable natural resources. The human society recognized its importance long time ago, and has been attempting to use groundwater rationally ever since. In this context, the hydrogeological research oriented on the rational use of groundwater holds an important position. This thesis is introduced with a summary of methods of the hydrogeological research. The Stream Thermometry and Sequential Profile Discharge Measurement methods have been applied in the research of groundwater flow in small drainage basins (i.e. basins of less than 20 km2). In particular, the research has concerned the basins of the Bunčovský stream (Morava), the Radiměřský stream (Svitava) and the Sloupečník stream (Svitava). Each of these basins drains different rock bodies of different age and development. The Bunčovský stream drains Paleogene flysh rocks bodies. The Radiměřský stream drains Cretaceous sandstones and marlites and the Sloupečník stream drains Proterozoic crystalline rocks bodies. Two types of relief (the steep and flat relief types) have been distinguished in the researched areas, on the basis of relative elevation difference in a defined square. It has been confirmed in the thesis that Stream Thermometry and Sequential Profile Discharge Measurement are appropriate methods for the research of small drainage basins. Stream Thermometry involves the measuring of water temperature and its electrical conductivity during the winter period when the temperatures fall deeply below 0 °C. The drainage potential of rock bodies, as well as the velocity and depth of groundwater flow, in dependence on the studied factors (relief type, lithology and tectonics) have been defined by means of Stream Thermometry. Sequential Profile Discharge Measurement method is based on hydrometering in sequential profiles; the data thus gained are subsequently used for the construction of the lines of sequential profile discharges and of sequential profile specific groundwater flows. The thesis includes maps of the variability of specific groundwater flow in the studied drainage basins. The parts of the basins with loss of water into the rock environment and those with infiltration of groundwater into the stream have been identified. Consequently, the connection and dependence of discharge in sequential profiles and the variability of groundwater flow has been proven in the thesis.
