Forest vegetation of Bohemian sandstone landscapes

Abstract:

Lesní vegetace představuje významnou složku ekosystému českých pískovcových oblastí. Ačkoli existují lokální fytocenologické studie, syntetická studie této vegetace dosud chyběla. Hlavním cílem mé diplomové práce je zpracovat fytocenologickou charakteristiku lesů českých pískovcových oblastí a porovnat lesní vegetaci oblastí ovlivněných různým klimatem a fytogeografickými vlivy. Během tří vegetačních období (2020–2022) jsem zaznamenala celkem 97 fytocenologických snímků z Adršpašsko-teplických skal a Kokořínska. Tyto snímky jsem doplnila o data z mé bakalářské práce a České národní fytocenologické databáze. Kompletní soubor 1678 snímků jsem klasifikovala pomocí modifikované metody Twinspan a dále upravila na výsledný počet 21 vegetačních typů zařazených do 13 hlavních skupin (mokřadní olšiny a vrbiny, lužní lesy, suťové lesy, teplomilné doubravy, dubohabřiny, květnaté, kyselé a kulturní bučiny, rašelinné březiny a bory, bazifilní bory, acidofilní bory s příměsí bazifytů, brusnicové bory, podmáčené smrčiny, acidofilní smíšené lesy a kulturní smrčiny). Vegetační typy představují vyhraněná lesní společenstva s odlišnými ekologickými nároky, což potvrdilo i srovnání na základě výsledků DCA ordinace, ellenbergovských indikačních hodnot a faktorů prostředí. Podle zastoupení jednotlivých vegetačních typů jsem mezi sebou porovnala jednotlivé pískovcové oblasti. Významnými odlišnostmi je především vyšší zastoupení nížinných typů lesů na Kokořínsku (rašelinné březiny a bory, teplomilné doubravy a bazifilní bory), vyšší zastoupení květnatých bučin v Lužických horách a přítomnost horských typů lesů na Broumovsku. Srovnala jsem také závislost druhové bohatosti cévnatých rostlin a mechorostů na území Adršpašsko-teplických skal, Maloskalska a Kokořínska podél gradientu půdního pH. Zatímco diverzita cévnatých rostlin roste se zvyšujícím se pH, diverzita mechorostů vykazuje slabě negativní závislost. Rozdíl v druhové bohatosti cévnatých rostlin je mezi oblastmi nevýznamný, druhová bohatost mechorostů je ale vyšší v Adršpašsko-teplických skálách.

Abstract:

Forest vegetation is an important component of ecosystems in Czech sandstone areas. Although many local phytosociological studies were conducted in these areas, a unified synthesis has been lacking so far. The main aim of my thesis is to elaborate a phytosociological characterization of forests in Czech sandstone areas, and compare forests in areas influenced by different climatic and phytogeographical factors. During three vegetation seasons (2020–2022), I recorded a total of 97 vegetation plots from the Adršpach-Teplice Rocks and Kokořínsko area. I supplemented these plots with data from my bachelor thesis and the Czech National Phytosociological Database. I classified the complete set of 1678 plots using the modified Twinspan method and further adjusted the resulting classification to obtain 21 vegetation types classified into 13 main groups (alder and willow carrs, alluvial forests, ravine forests, thermophilous oak forests, oak-hornbeam forests, herb-rich, acidophilous and intesively managed beech forests, birch and pine mire forests, basophilous pine forests, acidophilous pine forests with admixture of basophytes, boreo-continental pine forests, waterlogged spruce forests, acidophilous mixed forests and spruce plantations). These vegetation types represent distinct forest communities with different ecological requirements, as confirmed by DCA ordination, Ellenberg-type indicator values and analyses of environmental variables. I compared the different sandstone areas based on the representation of vegetation types. Particularly notable is the higher representation of lowland forest types in the Kokořínsko area (birch and pine mire forests, thermophilous oak and basophilous pine forests), the higher representation of herb-rich beech forests in the Lusatian Mountains (Lužické hory) and the presence of mountain forest types in the Broumov region. I also compared the relationship of the species richness of vascular plants and bryophytes in the Adršpach-Teplice Rocks, Maloskalsko and Kokořínsko areas along the soil pH gradient. While the diversity of vascular plants increases with increasing pH, the diversity of bryophytes decreases. The difference in species richness of vascular plants between the areas is insignificant, in contrast to bryophytes whose species richness is highest in the Adršpach-Teplice Rocks.
