Diagnostics of Binocular Vision In Children with Intellectual Disabilities

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce je zaměřená na diagnostiku jednoduchého binokulárního vidění u dětí s poruchou vývoje intelektu. Cílem diplomové práce je vymezit kvalitu jednoduchého binokulárního vidění u dětí s poruchou vývoje intelektu, případně jeho poruchy. Teoretická část se zabývá rozdělením poruchy vývoje intelektu podle systému MKN 11. revize. Dále se pak věnuje vývoji zraku a jednoduchého binokulárního vidění od narození po ukončení tohoto složitého procesu s dosažením nevyššího stupně vidění. Následně jsou přiblíženy poruchy jednoduchého binokulárního vidění. Poslední kapitola teoretické části popisuje různé diagnostické metody vyšetření binokulárního vidění a jejich poruch. Výzkumná část je realizována prostřednictvím kvalitativního výzkumu, který mapuje 4 děti s poruchou vývoje intelektu a 2 děti bez poruchy vývoje intelektu s poruchou jednoduchého binokulárního vidění. K dosažení cílů byla využita forma sběru dat prostřednictvím případových studií na základě pozorování během vyšetření zrakových funkcí a jednoduchého binokulárního vidění. Sesbírané data byly poté zpracována pomocí kódů a kategorií. Z výsledků vyšlo, že děti s poruchou vývoje intelektu potřebují odlišný přístup v postupu vyšetření jednoduchého binokulárního vidění a zrakových funkcí. Je to dáno především kvůli kognitivní funkcím dítěte. Je nutné, aby vyšetřující individuálně přizpůsobil spolupráci dle potřeb dítěte, aby vytěžil maximální výsledek diagnostických metod. Vyšetřující by měl umět modifikovat a najít adekvátní způsob komunikace s dítětem prostřednictvím jasných, krátkých vět či slov, kterým rozumí. Děti s poruchou vývoje intelektu mají krátkou a proměnlivou dobu pozornosti, rychle a snáze se unaví, což může negativně ovlivnit výsledek vyšetření.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis focuses on the diagnosis of simple binocular vision in children with intellectual developmental disorders. The aim of the thesis is to define the quality of simple binocular vision in children with intellectual developmental disorders, as well as potential impairments. The theoretical part addresses the classification of intellectual developmental disorders according to the ICD-11 system. It further discusses the development of vision and simple binocular vision from birth to the completion of this complex process, achieving the highest level of vision. Subsequently, impairments of simple binocular vision are explored. The last chapter of the theoretical section describes various diagnostic methods for examining binocular vision and its impairments. The research part is conducted through qualitative research, mapping 4 children with intellectual developmental disorders and 2 children without such disorders but with impairments in simple binocular vision. To achieve the goals, data collection was carried out through case studies based on observations during the examination of visual functions and simple binocular vision. The collected data were processed using codes and categories. The results showed that children with intellectual developmental disorders require a different approach in the process of examining simple binocular vision and visual functions. This is primarily due to the child’s cognitive functions. It is essential for the examiner to adapt the cooperation to the child’s needs in order to obtain the best possible results from the diagnostic methods. The examiner should be able to modify and find an appropriate way to communicate with the child using clear, short sentences or words the child understands. Children with intellectual developmental disorders have a short and variable attention span, fatigue quickly, which can negatively affect the results of the examination.
