Sheltered Housing, Care For People With Mental Retardation

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis deals with sheltered housing for people with mental handicap. The main topic is the life of these clients in a complex of sheltered housing and their integration into society. The first chapter describes characteristics of the people with mental handicap, there is explained the concept of mental retardation and special features of this handicap. The second chapter focuses on the system of care. The third and fourth chapter devotes to a new treatment of people with mental handicap. Among the contemporary trends we classify sheltered housing, personal assistance, foster care and respite care. The fifth chapter deals with integration of mentally disabled people into the society. The empirical part of the thesis analyses the awareness of citizens of Šluknovský Region of mentally disabled individuals in order to determine the relationship between intact and handicapped persons, including the integration into the society. It also investigates the awareness of sheltered housing with a reference to the selected institution in the Integrated Center Horní Poustevna.
