Playing the Race Card: Debating Racism on The O'Reilly Factor
Abstract:
Tato práce analyzuje, jak je v televizním pořadu The O'Reilly Factor jazykově zpracováváno téma post-rasismu. Cílem práce je zkoumat, jak moderátor pořadu Bill O’Reilly mluví o Afroameričanech a těch, kteří zastávají názor, že rasismus v Americe stále existuje, a tím odhalit, jak se může ideologie nepřímo a často skrytě šířit skrze jazyk.
Abstract:
This thesis analyzes verbal representations of the idea of post-racism on the TV show The O'Reilly Factor. The aim is to investigate how the show host Bill O’Reilly speaks about African Americans and those who propose the idea that racism still exists in the U.S., and thus expose how ideology can be indirectly and often covertly spread via language.
