Motivational and demotivational factors in teaching of foreign languages

Abstract:

Tato práce zpracovává problematiku motivace a demotivace ve výuce cizích jazyků. Teoretická část se stručně zabývá pojmem motivace a potřeb ve vztahu k žákovi a učiteli a dále se zaměřuje na hlavní faktory ovlivňující výuku cizích jazyků, a to jak motivační, tak demotivační. Neopomíná ani současné trendy ve výuce, včetně možností práce s ICT. Také autorka práce zde nastiňuje své zkušenosti. Dále zde najdeme analýzu nejpoužívanějších učebnic anglického a francouzského jazyka s cílem poukázat na jejich podněcující a demotivační faktory. Praktickou část obsahuje výzkum provedený v hodinách Fj a AJ, který je tvořen analýzou náslechů ve výuce cizích jazyků a zpracováním dotazníků pro žáky i učitele. Práce je zakončena kapitolou "Ideální" učitel a "Ideální" žák ve výuce cizího jazyka, kde autorka nastiňuje jejich charakteristické rysy. V této práci najdou inspiraci pro svou výuku zejména začínající i zkušenější učitelé cizích jazyků. Určená je i pro lektory jazykových škol, příp. rodiče hledající vhodného učitele cizího jazyka pro své dítě.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with motivation and demotivation in foreign language teaching. Theoretical part occupies by term "motivation" and "necessities" in relation to a learner and a teacher. It is also focused on major factors that influence teaching of foreign languages. It includes motivational as well as demotivational factors. In addition, there are modern trends in teaching including possibilities of work with information technologies. The author mentions her experience, too. The most using English and French textbooks are analyzed. The goal is to show their motivational and demotivational factors. Practical part contains the research that was realized during English and French lessons. It includes analysis of sitting in on a class during language teaching and the assessment of questionnaires for learners and teachers. The thesis is finished by the chapter "Ideal" teacher and "Ideal" learner in foreign language teaching where are mentioned their characteristic traits. The teacher that do not have too much experience and also more experienced teachers can find inspiration for their teaching in this thesis. It is intended also for teachers teaching in language schools or parents that are looking for an appropriate teacher of foreign language for their child.
