Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá obsahem národních stereotypů posuzovaných příslušníky dvou národností – Čechy a Rakušany. Prvním z cílů výzkumu bylo porovnat obsahy jednotlivých typů posouzení – národního autostereotypu, heterostereotypu a sebeposouzení. Předpokládali jsme, že se sebeposouzení bude shodovat s autostereotypem a zároveň se bude odlišovat od heterostereotypu. Dalším cílem bylo porovnat českou a rakouskou část výzkumného souboru a zjistit, do jaké míry se shodují při posuzování typického Čecha/Češky a typického Rakušana/Rakušanky. Výzkumný soubor tvořili středoškolští studenti/studentky z příhraničních oblastí jižní Moravy (N = 135) a Dolního Rakouska (N = 124). Respondenti/respondentky obou národností posuzovali osobnostní charakteristiky na bipolárních škálách rysových deskriptorů Inventáře IPJ-R. IPJ-R byl vyplňován celkem třikrát – k zachycení vlastních osobnostních charakteristik, charakteristik typického představitele/představitelky vlastního národa (autostereotypu) a charakteristik typického představitele/představitelky národa sousedního (heterostereotypu). Výsledky ukázaly, že se čeští a rakouští adolescenti v sebeposuzování výrazně neliší. Mezi sebeposouzením a autostereotypem byl prokázán negativní vztah v obou částech výzkumného souboru. Obsah národních autostereotypů zjištěný v rámci našeho výzkumu tedy nekoresponduje s charakteristikami jednotlivých respondentek/-tů zachycenými při sebeposuzování, což znamená, že se studenti/studentky nepovažují za typické představitele/představitelky vlastního národa. Očekávaný negativní vztah mezi sebeposouzením a posouzením typického představitele druhého národa (heterostereotypem) byl statisticky průkazný pouze v české části souboru. Srovnání auto- a heterostereotypů ukázalo, že mezi Rakušany a Čechy neexistuje shoda v tom, jak popisují typického Čecha/Češku a typického Rakušana/Rakušanku. Na základě prezentovaných zjištění lze uzavřít, že národní stereotypy spíše než realistickému zachycení osobnostních charakteristik příslušníků národa slouží jiným sociálním funkcím, jako je např. udržování národní identity.

Abstract:

In the MA thesis, the content of national stereotypes was researched. We were interested in how members of two Central European nations – Czechs and Austrians – perceive their own personality characteristics, personality characteristics of their own nation representatives (autostereotype) and the neighboring nation representatives (heterostereotype). The main subject of the research was a quantitative analysis of the national auto- and heterostereotypes and their comparison with the self-ratings. We expected the perceptions of one’s own personality characteristics (self-ratings) to converge with the autostereotype, being different from the heterostereotype at the same time. Furthermore, the comparison between the perceptions in the Czech and Austrian part of the sample was of interest. The sample comprised high school students from the borderland of Austria (N = 124) and the Czech Republic (N = 135). The national stereotypes and self-ratings were evaluated on bipolar trait descriptors scales of IPJ-R Inventory. The outcomes show a convergence between the self-ratings of Czech and Austrian adolescents. However, the self-ratings differ from the perceived characteristics of one’s own nation representatives in both parts of the sample. Thus, the students from both groups don’t consider themselves being the typical representative of their nation. The expected difference between the self-ratings and the heterostereotype was statistically significant only in the Czech part of the sample. The comparison between the national auto- and heterostereotypes shows divergent perceptions of a typical Czech and a typical Austrian in the Czech and Austrian part of the sample. Based on the presented evidence, it can be concluded that national stereotypes do not reflect personality characteristics of the nation representatives. They may rather serve other social functions such as maintaining a national identity.
