Slow destination Broumov, barriers to its development and impacts of the candidacy for the ECoC.

Abstract:

Oblast turistického regionu Broumovska je velmi známá, převážně co se přírodních památek týče. Z tohoto důvod se některé z památek potýkají s nadměrným cestovním ruchem, kde je potřeba většího zásahu destinačního managementu, u jiných památek je však potřeba rozvoje cestovního ruchu a tím identifikaci bariér rozvoje. Stejně tak je tomu pro město Broumov jako takové, které se potýká s odlivem mladých lidí do větších měst a stagnací kulturního života z mnoha důvodů, které se snaží eliminovat kandidatura města Broumov na Evropské Hlavní Město Kultury pro rok 2028. Záměrem práce je popsat Broumovsko jako slow destinaci, identifikovat bariéry rozvoje této oblasti, poukázání na potenciál kulturního cestovního ruchu a analýza úspěšné kandidatury Broumova na EHMK 2028. K dosažení těchto cílů byly využity nejen dostupné zdroje, ale primárně přímá komunikace se Společností pro Destinační Management Broumova a hloubkové rozhovory s koordinátorkou kandidatury, v neposlední řadě pak dotazníkové šetření na třech úrovních pro návštěvníky oblasti, rezidenty a místní podnikatele. Výsledky poukazují na zjištěné bariéry rozvoje a budoucí východiska pro rozvoj této oblast v rámci cestovního ruchu a života na Broumovsku, stejně tak jako nutné pokračování v nastavených projektech v rámci kandidatury.

Abstract:

The tourist region of Broumov is very well known, mainly in terms of natural sights. For this reason, some of the monuments are facing overtourism, where more intervention of destination management is needed, but for other monuments there is a need to develop tourism and thus identify barriers to development. The same is the case for the city of Broumov as such, which is struggling with the outflow of young people to larger cities and stagnation of cultural life for many reasons, which the candidacy of Broumov for the European Capital of Culture for 2028 is trying to eliminate. The intention of this thesis is to describe Broumov as a slow destination, to identify barriers to the development of this area, to highlight the potential of cultural tourism and to analyse the successful candidacy of Broumov for the ECoC 2028. In order to achieve these objectives, not only available sources were used, but primarily direct communication with the Broumov Destination Management Company and in-depth interviews with the coordinator of the candidacy, and last but not least a three-level questionnaire survey for visitors to the area, residents and local entrepreneurs. The results highlight the identified barriers to development and future starting points for the development of the area within tourism and life in Broumov, as well as the necessary continuation of the set projects within the candidacy.
