Application of Sensory Characteristics in Adaptive Language Learning

Abstract:

Disertační práce se dotýká problematiky aplikace senzorických vlastností v adaptivní výuce cizích jazyků. Adaptivní výuka je realizována prostřednictvím informačních a komunikačních technologií. V úvodu je zmíněn současný stav studované problematiky a její zasazení do koncepce výzkumu na Pedagogické fakultě Ostravské univerzity. Dále jsou zde uvedeny vybrané pojmy z oblasti didaktiky cizího jazyka, které poslouží k popisu teorie adaptivního eLearningu pro tuto oblast. Cílem disertační práce je vytvoření a ověření individualizovaného modelu pro výuku cizích jazyků dle senzorických vlastností studenta v prostředí adaptivního eLearningu. Teoretický model adaptivní výuky cizích jazyků je strukturovaný do tří částí:vstupní didaktický test, adaptivní výukové opory a řízení adaptivní výuky. V první části je popsán způsob diagnostiky senzorických vlastností a vstupních jazykových znalostí studenta. V druhé části je navržena struktura výukových opor. Ve třetí části je představen algoritmus, který určuje způsob přiřazení výukových opor studentovi. Fungování individualizovaného modelu výuky cizího jazyka, konkrétně angličtiny, bylo ověřeno pedagogickým experimentem za podpory informačních technologií. Účastníky experimentu byli studenti střední a vysoké školy s požadovanou počáteční jazykovou úrovní pro realizaci experimentu. Pro pedagogický experiment byl vybrán anglický jazyk, neboť je považován za nejrozšířenější světový jazyk. Výsledky daného experimentu se promítly do závěrečných doporučení, jak dále směřovat výuku anglického jazyka v adaptivním elektronickém prostředí.

Abstract:

This dissertation thesis deals with the application of learner´s individual sensory characteristics in adaptive language learning. The adaptive learning is implemented by means of information and communication technologies. The main objective of the thesis is to create and verify an individualized model of language learning based on sensory characteristics in adaptive eLearning. At the beginning, the current state of individualized instruction and its relation to the Ostrava University project is presented. Further, the terms of adaptive eLearning theory has been defined. Next, a theoretic model of adaptive instruction in the foreign language learning was introduced. The model consists of three parts focusing on entry didactic test, adaptive study support and the process of adaptive tutoring. First, a learner´s diagnostics of sensory characteristics and entry language knowledge was detected; second the structure and learning content of teaching supportive materials were designed; third, the algorithm of teaching/learning was introduced. Finally, the model has been verified by the pedagogical experiment; its results provide the basis of didactic (pedagogical) recommendations for successful application of the language learning based on sensory characteristics in adaptive eLearning.
