Design of cultural magazine with use of modern technologies

Abstract:

Zadání mé bakalářské práce byl návrh designu kulturního periodika s použitím nových tiskových technologií. Rozhodla jsem se navrhnout magazín s názvem TUV, který se skládá z prvních písmen slov technologie, umění, věda. Jako zástupce pro nové tiskové technologie jsem si vybrala termochromické barvy, které mizí při teplotě vyšší než 17 stupňů C. Hlavní myšlenkou mé bakalářské práce bylo navrhnout design magazínu, kterým bych zaplnila mezeru na trhu současných českých magazínů. Chtěla jsem klást vyšší důraz na vizuální stránku celého projektu, ne jen na holý text, jak tomu je u ostatně zaměřených magazínů podobné tématiky. Logo, které jsem pro magazín navrhla se skládá z rovnostranných trojúhelníků a kruhu. Rovnostranný trojúhelník proto, že v TUV magazínu mají všechny tři entity- technologie, umění, věda stejné zastoupení. Kruh zastupuje symboliku věčně se vyvíjejícího umění, které se nikdy ve svém pokroku nezastaví. Nakonec jsem vytvořila TUV magazín se speciálními termochromickými barvami, plakát představující magazín TUV a baner pro inzerci v ostatních poblikacích. Oboje, plakát i baner, bez použití speciálních barev vzhledem k poměrně komplikované realizaci v ostatních médiích.

Abstract:

The principal aim of my final bachelor thesis was to design a cultural magazine with using new technologies. I decided to design a magazine called TUV, which combines the first letters of Technology, Arts and Science in Czech. In the context of my project the technology refers to the use of thermochromic inks. These are inks that fade away when the heat of material they are applied on gets over 17?C. The essential idea of my project was to fill a gap in the publication of contemporary Czech magazines. I wanted to put a more visual emphasis on the whole project and not only fill the whole magazine with plain text and the minimal use of photography and illustration. That?s why I used the thermosensitive inks as an interesting supplement that fits the photos used in the magazine and could attract more people than a magazine filled simply with text. The logo I designed for the magazine consists of triangles and a circle. Both of those shapes function as supplementary images throughout the whole magazine. I used the triangle because of my belief that technology, arts and science have the same space in the magazine and none are excluded. The circle acts as a symbol of ever-developing art having no end. Finally I made the TUV magazine with the special thermosensitive inks, a poster introducing the new magazine as well as supplementary images that could be used as an advertisement in other magazines or newspapers. I realized both the poster and the supplementary images without special inks because of the difficulties of production.
