The global market for organic food and Czech Republic’s position on this market

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je poskytnout komplexní přehled světového trhu s biopotravinami a zjištění dopadů pandemie covid-19 na tento trh. Práce rovněž usiluje o zařazení českého trhu do světového kontextu a nastínění návrhů na zlepšení jeho postavení. Práce je rozdělena do 3 hlavních částí. První kapitola se věnuje biopotravinám jako komoditě. Definuje biopotraviny a jejich značení. Popisuje koncept ekologického zemědělství a seznamuje čtenáře s platnou legislativou v oblasti biopotravin a se systémem kontrol a certifikací. Druhá kapitola podrobně analyzuje světový trh biopotravin. Zaměřuje se na světový obrat trhu, světovou produkci, spotřebu a mezinárodní obchod s biopotravinami. Je také sledováno ovlivnění trhu biopotravin pandemií covid-19. Zmíněny jsou i světové organizace pro biopotraviny, světový veletrh biopotravin a propojení ekologického zemědělství a iniciativy Fair trade. Třetí kapitola se soustředí na český trh biopotravin. Je uvedena velikostí trhu, aktuálními trendy a současnými problémy. Dále řeší ceny, poptávku a dovoz, propagační aktivity, nabídku a vývoz a podporu ekologického zemědělství v rámci EU a ČR. Součástí kapitoly je také zjištění dopadů pandemie. Práce je zakončena návrhy na zlepšení postavení českého trhu na světovém trhu biopotravin.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to provide a comprehensive overview of the global organic food market and to determine the impact of the covid-19 pandemic on this market. The aim of this thesis is to also put Czech organic market in the global context and to present suggestions for the improvement of its position in this market. The thesis is divided into 3 main parts. The first chapter deals with organic food as a commodity. It defines organic food and its labelling. It describes the concept of organic agriculture and acquaints the reader with organic legislation in force and with the system of inspections and certifications. The second chapter analyses in detail the global organic food market. It focuses on organic market value, production, consumption and international trade in organic food. Also the impact of the covid-19 pandemic is studied. Mentioned are also world organizations for organic food, Biofach organic trade fair and the connection of organic agriculture and the Fair trade initiative. The third chapter focuses on the Czech organic food market. The chapter begins with the size of the market, current trends and issues. It also deals with price, organic demand and imports, promotion of organic, organic supply and export and the support of organic agriculture within the EU and the Czech Republic. Part of this chapter is determining the consequences of the pandemic. The thesis is concluded with suggestions for the improvement of the Czech Republic’s position in the global organic food market.
