The Europenization of Non-European Countries: A Case Study of Tunisia

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá aktuálním tématem evropeizace neevropských zemí. Klade si za cíl rozvinutí tohoto konceptu a analýzu možného vlivu evropeizace ve vybrané neevropské zemi – v Tunisku. Práce nejprve vymezuje pojem evropeizace. Dále pak pojednává o tom, jakým způsobem a do jaké míry může u neevropských států docházet k evropeizaci a také jak ji lze zkoumat. Nastíněný teoretický rámec se pak uplatnil při zkoumání změn tuniského politického systému ve vybraných oblastech polity, politics a policy mezi lety 1995 a 2010. Hlavními oblastmi zkoumání jsou rozvoj demokracie a lidských práv, nezávislost justice, struktura hlavní politické strany Demokratické ústavní sdružení a její volební programatika, a v neposlední řadě také priority zahraniční, hospodářské a energetické politiky.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with Europeanization of non-European countries. It aims to elaborate the concept and analyze the influence of Europeanization in the selected non-European country; Tunisia. Firstly, the term Europeanization is defined. Then, it is discussed how and to what extent Europeanization can occur, as well as how it can be examined. Further, the outlined theoretical framework is applied when examining changes of the Tunisian political system in selected areas of polity, politics and policy between 1995 and 2010. The main areas of research are development of democracy and human rights; independence of the judiciary; the structure of the major political party Democratic Constitutional Rally and its election programs; and priorities of foreign, economic and energy policy.
