The psychometric abilities determination of research tool focused on the evolution theory perception and knowledge

Abstract:

Evoluční teorie patří, s ohledem na výzkumné oblasti didaktiky biologie, mezi marginální témata. Z důvodu téměř nulového počtu validních výzkumných nástrojů v domácích podmínkách bylo cílem bakalářské práce ověřit psychometrické vlastnosti vybraných výzkumných nástrojů. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 58 žáků 8. a 9. ročníku základní školy. Výzkumný nástroj byl tvořen testem zaměřeným na vědomosti o evoluci, a dále dvěma dotazníky, z nichž jeden se týkal vědomostí o evoluční teorii a druhý percepce vlastní víry. Dalšími demografickými proměnnými byly pohlaví, věk, bydliště, náboženství, zájem o biologii, a zdali mají respondenti povědomí o tom, co to evoluční teorie je. Psychometrické vlastnosti byly stanoveny standardními statistickými postupy, konkrétně deskriptivní statistikou. Bylo určeno minimum, maximum, průměrné skóre a směrodatná odchylka pro každou položku a otázku. Pro stanovení normality byl použit Kolmogorův-Smirnův test. Pro zjištění reliability byl zase použit koeficient Cronbachovo alfa. Cílem bylo rovněž zjistit vliv vybraných proměnných na úroveň vědomostí, a to prostřednictvím analýzy rozptylu. Chlapci, žáci 8. ročníku a ti, co uvedli, že mají povědomí o evoluční teorii, měli významně lepší vědomosti o evoluční teorii. V rámci Diskuze jsou diskutovány základní zjištění a v závěru jsou navrhnuty implikace do pedagogické praxe a doporučení pro další výzkum.

Abstract:

In the research environment of the didactic of biology the theory of evolution belongs to the marginal topics. Because of the lack of valid research tools in the Czech republic the goal of this bachelor thesis was to determinate the psychometric abilities of the chosen research tools. Fifty-eight pupils from 8th and 9th grade of the primary school participated in this research. The research tool was made by one test focused on the knowledge of the secondary school pupils about the theory of evolution and by two questionnaires, from which one was also focused on the knowledge about the evolution and the other one was made to determinate the perception of the religious believe of respondents. Other demographic variables that the thesis was focused on were gender, age, the place of living, the religious faith, the interest of the respondents in the evolution theory and if they have ever heard about it before. The psychometric abilities of the research tool were determined with the help of adequate statistical methods, for example with a descriptive statistics. Minimum and maximum, an average score and a standard deviation have been determined for each question. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used for determination of the normality and for determination of the reliability was used the coefficient of Cronbach's alpha. Another goal of this thesis was also to determinate how the chosen demographic variables affect the level of knowledge about the theory of evolution and this was done with the help of the analysis of variance. Boys, pupils from 8th grade and the ones who said they have heard about the theory of evolution before had better knowledge about the evolution. Basic findings are discussed in the Discussion and some possibilities of implications into the pedagogical practice and suggestions for future research are presented at the end of this work.
