Differences of the electoral behavior under communist regime and in democracy on the example of selected elections in Třinec and Jablunkov region and their using in teaching

Abstract:

V diplomové práci se zaměřujeme na srovnání volebního chování obyvatel v období komunistického a demokratického režimu na našem území. V první části práce se zabýváme vymezením volební geografie a popisem faktorů ovlivňující volební chování, které je zaměřeno na geografické a fyzickogeografické a socioekonomické faktory. Následně se soustřeďujeme na důvody, které pravděpodobně ovlivňují volební chování na Třinecku a Jablunkovsku. V další kapitole věnujeme pozornost vývoji stranického systému a stručně popisujeme politické strany v Česku, což nám poskytuje lepší kontext pro následnou analýzu volebních výsledků. V následující kapitole se věnujeme komparativní analýze volebních výsledků na Třinecku a Jablunkovku. Pozornost zaměřujeme na volební výsledky z období komunismu a demokracie. Ovšem vzhledem k nedostupnosti volebních dat z komunistického režimu pro dané oblasti, se více věnujeme popisu voleb v demokratickém období. Analyzujeme prezidentské volby z let 2018 a 2023 a volby do Poslanecké sněmovny Parlamentu ČR v roce 2021, které vykazují největší rozdíly na zkoumaném území. V závěrečné části práce se věnujeme didaktickému využití volebních dat ve výuce geografie na středních školách. Popisujeme strukturu výukové hodiny zaměřené na práci s volebními daty, která má za cíl rozvíjet kritické myšlení a analytické schopnosti žáků.

Abstract:

In this thesis we focus on the comparison of the voting behaviour of the population during the communist and democratic regimes in our country. In the first part of the thesis, we define electoral geography and describe the factors influencing voting behavior, focusing on geographical and physical-geographical and socio-economic factors. We then focus on the reasons that are likely to influence voting behaviour in the Třinec and Jablunkov regions. In the next chapter, we pay attention to the development of the party system and briefly describe the political parties in the Czech Republic, which provides a better context for the subsequent analysis of the electoral results. In the next chapter we focus on a comparative analysis of the election results in Třinec and Jablunkov. We focus on election results from the communist and democratic periods. However, due to the unavailability of election data from the communist regime for the areas in question, we focus more on the description of elections in the democratic period. We analyze the 2018 and 2023 presidential elections and the 2021 elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, which show the largest differences in the study area. In the final part of the paper, we discuss the didactic use of electoral data in the teaching of geography in secondary schools. We describe the structure of a lesson aimed at working with electoral data to develop student's critical thinking and analytical skills.
