Psychometrics characteristics of the Experience in Close Relationship - Relationship Structures, the relationship between global and specific attachment

Abstract:

The Experience in Close Relationships – Relationship Structures (ECR-RS) je jednou z nejčastěji využíva-ných metod pro měření citové vazby v dospělosti. Jedním z cílů této práce je zhodnotit faktorovu validitu české verze této metody. Dále se práce zaměřuje na posouzení invariance měření pro pohlaví a pro sku-piny odpovídající vzhledem k partnerovi aktuálnímu, bývalému a partnerovi, kterého si respondent představuje a přeje. Dalším významným cílem je posouzení možnosti extrahování globální citové vazby, kdy byl porovnáván hierarchický a bifaktorový model. Výzkum byl realizován na vzorku 1023 mladých lidí. Výsledky podpořily dvoufaktorovou strukturu metody pomocí konfirmatorní faktorové analýzy. Originální struktura položek neodpovídala dobře datům a model byl následně respecifikován. Struktura položek je invariantní pro pohlaví, nikoli však pro zvažované typy partnerů. Sloučení odpovědí vůči růz-ným partnerům se v budoucích výzkumech nedoporučuje. Ze všech zvažovaných modelů se nejlépe sho-doval s daty bifaktorový model. Globální vazbová úzkostnost a globální vazbová vyhýbavost přímo půso-bí na lidské vztahové prožívání spolu se specifiky vztahu (specifickou citovou vazbou), která jsou na glo-bálních faktorech nezávislé. Míra vlivu globálních a specifických faktorů souvisí s typem zvažovaného vztahu (matka, otec, partner, nejlepší přítel). Práce rovněž přinesla důkaz pro nemožnost sčítání hodnot odpovědí a tvoření škál pak tímto způsobem. Výsledky implikují, že pro adekvátní měření citové vazby pomocí metody ECR-RS je vhodné vytvoření strukturního modelu, kdy budou extrahovány faktorové skóre pro citovou vazbu ke specifickým vazbovým osobám a zároveň nezávislé skóry pro globální vazbovou vyhýbavost a globální vazbovou úzkostnost. Tyto skóry je pak vhodné používat v budoucích výzkumech pro měření citové vazby v dospělosti.

Abstract:

The Experience in Close Relationships – Relationship Structures (ECR-RS) is one of the most popular adult attachment questionnaires. One of the aim of this study is to examine the factor validity of the Czech version ECR-RS. This study also analyzes measurement invariance across gender and the type of partners in relationship domain “romantic partner” (dating/marital, former and partner that the respondent would like to have). Next important aim is to examine the possibility to extract global attachment (global avoidance and global anxiety), the hierarchical and bifactor models are compared. The sample of 1023 young people completed the ECR-RS questionnaire. Using the confirmatory factor analysis, the results confirmed the original 2-factor structure. The original structure of items does not fit the data well and the model required respecification. The results supported measurement invariance across gender, but not across the types of partners. The bifactor model fitted the data best out of considered models. Global avoidance and global anxiety influences our experiences in relationships directly along with relationship specific avoidance and anxiety. Global and specific attachments are orthogonal variables. The degree of influence of global and specific factors is related to the type of the considered relationship (mother, father, partner, best friend). This study also brought evidence against adding of the answer values and creating scales in this manner. The conclusions of this study imply that for adequate measurement of adult at-tachment using ECR-RS, it is desirable to use structural equation modelling and extract the factor scores for specific and global factors. This type of scores is recommended for measurement of adult attachment in future research.
