Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Homes for the Elderly During the Covid-19 Pandemic

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce je využití informačních a komunikačních technologií v domovech pro seniory v průběhu pandemie Covid-19. Zákaz návštěv a opuštění areálu domova pro seniory během pandemie Covid-19 izoloval klienty těchto zařízení od okolního světa a moderní technologie byly jedinou možností, jak mohla rodina udržovat se svými blízkými, umístěnými v domovech pro seniory, bezpečný kontakt. Cílem bakalářské práce proto bylo zjistit, způsob a frekvenci používání informačních a komunikačních technologií klienty domovů pro seniory v době pandemie Covid-19 při aktivizačních činnostech. Výzkum je proveden kvantitativní metodou a jako technika sběru dat byl zvolen dotazník. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 53 domovů pro seniory sídlících na území Moravskoslezského kraje. Vyhodnocením dat bylo zjištěno, že většina domovů využívá při práci s klienty informační a komunikační technologie a současně je používá i v rámci aktivizačních činností, které tvoří širokou škálu aktivit. Není to však jediná možnost, jak se senioři mohou setkat s moderními technologiemi. Během pandemie Covid-19 se stalo běžným standardem informační a komunikační technologie seniorům v případě zájmu zapůjčit a nechat je s nimi pracovat dle svého uvážení, čehož senioři využili zejména při kontaktu s rodinou a přáteli nebo k volnočasovým aktivitám. Z vyhodnoceného výzkumu vyplynulo, že způsob, jakým mohou klienti domovů pro seniory využívat informační a komunikační technologie a také frekvence jejich využití, závisí pouze na nich samotných, protože většina domovů pro seniory nabízí svým klientům řadu možností, jak se s těmito technologiemi seznámit a naučit se s nimi pracovat za pomoci pracovníka sociální péče. Vše se odvíjí pouze od zájmu projeveného ze strany seniorů.

Abstract:

The topic of this bachelor thesis is the use of information and communication technologies during the Covid-19 pandemic in retirement homes. The ban on visits and unable to leave the retirement homes during the Covid-19 pandemic made clients of these facilities isolated from the outside world and modern technologies were therefore the only way for families and relatives of these seniors to maintain safe contact with their loved ones. Therefore, the aim of this bachelor thesis was to determine the manner and frequency of use of information and communication technologies during the Covid-19 pandemic by the clients of the retirement homes within their activation activities. The research was carried out as a quantitative method and questionnaires were chosen as the data collection technique. The research involved 53 retirement homes all located in the Moravian-Silesian Region. The evaluation of the data revealed that most homes use information and communication technologies when working with their clients and at the same time they use it in activation activities which include a wide range of different activities. However, this is not the only way seniors can encounter modern technologies. During the Covid-19 pandemic it became a common standard to lend the seniors any requested information and communication technology and let them work with it at their own discretion which seniors used mainly in contact with family and friends or for any other leisure activity. The evaluation of the research revealed that the way in which the clients of retirement homes can use the information and communication technologies and also the frequency of its use depends solely on themselves because most retirement homes offer their clients a number of opportunities to get acquainted with these technologies and learn how to work with it offering the help of a social worker too. Everything depends only on the interest shown by senior clients.
