The importance of financial literacy for individuals coming out of children's home/institutional care

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá významem finanční gramotnosti pro osoby vycházející z ústavní péče. Vysvětluje pojem finanční gramotnost a způsoby vzdělávání a výchovy k finanční gramotnosti na úrovni základních a středních škol. Poukazuje na důležitost výchovy k finanční gramotnosti v rodině, která přirozeně doplňuje školní výuku. Další část práce mapuje formy ústavní péče, zvláště dětského domova. Shrnuje způsoby přípravy na samostatný život a následnou péči o osoby vycházející z této ústavní péče. Jmenuje příklady aktivit neziskových organizací, které se těmto mladým dospělým věnují, ať už přímo v dětském domově nebo po jeho opuštění. Mezi základní okruhy problémů, které v tomto období totiž musí řešit, je bydlení, zaměstnání, jednání na úřadech, hospodaření s penězi a ve většině případů i dluhy či exekuce. Kazuistiky dokládají dopad neznalosti a malou orientaci v těchto situacích. Příprava na toto klíčové a zásadní období je nedostatečná, roztříštěná a ze strany ústavní péče nesystematická. V závěru práce je navržen stručný manuál pro osoby vycházející z ústavní péče – dětských domovů. Manuál se týká například problematiky bydlení, tvorby osobního rozpočtu, bezpečného nakupování a dluhů. Slouží k rychlé orientaci v problému a vysvětlení základních pojmů.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the importance of financial literacy for individuals coming out of institutional care. It explains the concept of financial literacy and ways of education and upbringing to financial literacy at elementary and secondary schools. It highlights the importance of education to financial literacy in the family, which naturally complements schooling. Another part of the paper maps the forms of institutional care, especially children's home. It summarizes the ways of preparing for a life on their own and the subsequent care of the persons coming from this institutional care. It names examples of activities by non-profit organizations that are dedicated to these young adults, whether directly in a child's home or after leaving it. The main issues that need to be tackled in this period are housing, employment, office negotiations, money management and, in most cases, debts or executions. Case reports prove the impact of ignorance and low orientation in these situations. Preparing for this crucial and milestone period is inadequate, fragmented and unsystematic by institutional care authorities. At the end of the thesis, a short manual for persons coming out of institutional care - children's homes - is proposed. The manual covers issues such as housing, personal budgeting, secure shopping and debt. The paper is aimed to help the clients be well informed about the financial literacy as fast as possible and also explain the basic concepts.
