A view of selected Czech media on the Kurds in the context of the Middle East conflict

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zbývá stylem interpretace o národnostní menšině Kurdů ve vybraných českých tištěných médiích Mladé frontě Dnes a Právu v kontextu s aktuálním blízkovýchodním konfliktem prostřednictvím obsahové a diskurzní analýzy. V teoretické části jsou představeni Kurdi jako národnost v historických a geografických souvislostech, a část se zabývá kurdskou identitou. Samostatná podkapitola rozebírá postavení Kurdů v současném blízkovýchodním konfliktu v Sýrii, který je jednou z klíčových událostí pro další formování regionálních i mezinárodních vztahů. V souvislosti se zaměřením na prostředí českých médií je vyložen vztah zahraniční politiky České republiky a postoj českého obyvatelstva ke Kurdům. Před samotnou analýzou deníků jsou nastíněny funkce médií, jejich podstata a vliv na veřejné mínění. V praktické části jsou kombinací nástrojů obsahové a diskurzní analýzy plněny stanovené cíle. Těmi jsou zjištění frekvence a kontextu článků a klíčových slov, jež mají ukázat pohled českých médií na Kurdy. Nejprve jsou vybrané články podrobeny analýze z hlediska četnosti ve sledovaném období, výskytu ve struktuře deníků a četnosti klíčových slov v nich. Následuje analýza organizace formy klíčových slov a jejich zasazení do celkového kontextu obsahu s navazujícím rozborem kontextů celých článků, umožní vypracovat jejich vyhodnocení. Nakonec jsou rešerší přiblíženy samotné deníky dle jejich čtenosti, dosahu a vlastnictví. Výsledky jsou uvedeny v závěru práce.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis remains the style of interpretation of the national minority of Kurds in selected Czech print media Mladá fronta Dnes and Práv in the context of the current Middle East conflict through content and discourse analysis. The theoretical part introduces the Kurds as a nationality in historical and geographical contexts, and the part deals with the Kurdish identity. A separate subchapter discusses the position of the Kurds in the current Middle East conflict in Syria, which is one of the key events for the further formation of regional and international relations. In connection with the focus on the environment of the Czech media, the relationship of the Czech Republic and the attitude of the Czech population towards the Kurds is explained. Before the analysis of dailies, the functions of the media, their nature and influence on public opinion are outlined. In the practical part, the combination of content and discourse analysis tools fulfills the set goals. These are finding out the frequency and context of articles and keywords that are supposed to show the view of the Czech media on the Kurds. First, selected articles are analyzed in terms of frequency in the period under review, occurrence in the structure of diaries and the frequency of keywords in them. Analysis of the organization of the form of keywords and their placement in the overall context of the content and subsequent analysis of the contexts of entire articles, will allow to develop their evaluation. Finally, the diaries themselves are searched according to their readability, reach and ownership. The results are presented at the end of the work.
