USA and global environmental policy – domestic constraints on effective leadership between the years 2001-2019

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá rolí USA v multilaterálních snahách v environmentální politice, a jaký vliv na tuto roli mají akteři americké domácí politiky. Politika domácích aktérů, prezidenta a kongresu, je analyzována a nadále promítnuta do případových studiích, na kterých je zkoumán vzájemný vztah americké domácí politiky a výsledků mezinárodních environmentálních konferencí v prvních dvaceti letech 21.století. Tato práce navazuje na obdobnou analýzu Glena Sussmana (2004), který se zabýval stejným vztahem v posledních dvaceti letech 20.století.

Abstract:

This paper discusses the role of the USA in multilateral efforts in environmental policy. It also discusses the influence of the actors of american domestic policy, a president and a congress, on this role. The policy of domestic actors is analyzed and later projected onto case studies of global environmental conferences and there is examined the relation between the american domestic policy and the results of the conferences in the first twenty years of 21st century. This paper follows Glen Sussman's analysis (2004), which examined the same relation of the two variables in the last twenty years of the 20th century.
