Does expression of p63 protein contributes to the formation of cancer stem cells?

Abstract:

Podle současných hypotéz je základním stavebním kamenem nádoru malá skupinka buněk, které postupnou diferenciací dávají vzniknout heterogenní nádorové tkáni. Jsou to rakovinné kmenové buňky, označované též jako tumor iniciující buňky. Rakovinné kmenové buňky jsou cílem bádání mnoha vědců, což dokazuje množství publikací zabývajících se problematikou vzniku, vývoje a fungování těchto buněk v souvislosti s kancerogenezí. Je to dáno jejich vlastnostmi, které zahrnují schopnost sebeobnovy, proliferace a diferenciace. Hlavním důvodem ale zůstává jejich schopnost přežít léčbu rakoviny a být tak příčinou relapsu onemocnění a metastázování na další místa organismu. Protein p63, který patří do rodiny transkripčních faktorů spolu s nádorovým supresorem p53, má také důležitou úlohu v kancerogenezi. Podle některých teorií je jeho funkcí právě udržování kmenovosti normálních i rakovinných kmenových buněk.

Abstract:

According to current hypotheses, the cornerstone of a tumour is a small group of cells that give rise to heterogeneous cancer tissue due to differentiation. These are cancer stem cells, also known as tumour initiating cells. Many research groups are focused on cancer stem cells, as evidenced by the amount of publications dealing with the creation, development and function of these cells in relation to carcinogenesis. This is due to their properties, which include the ability of self-renewal, proliferation and differentiation. However, the main reason is their ability to survive the cancer treatment which may cause relapse of the disease and metastasis to other organs. p63 protein, which belongs to the family of transcription factors together with a tumour suppressor p53, also plays an important role in carcinogenesis. According to some theories, this protein can influence the stemness of normal and cancer stem cells.
