The impact of the economic sentiment indicator on consumer spending in the context of the business cycle in V4

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce zkoumá vliv indikátoru ekonomického sentimentu na spotřební výdaje v zemích V4 v různých fázích hospodářského cyklu. V empirické analýze byly za pomocí regresní analýzy vytvořeny vícerozměrné dynamické modely. Dynamické modely byly použity na základě prokázané závislosti zpožděných spotřebních výdajů o jedno období při předpovídání změny závislé proměnné. Do ekonometrických modelů byla také zařazena významná vysvětlující proměnná disponibilní důchod. Z výsledků této práce byl prokázán vliv indikátoru ekonomického sentimentu na spotřební výdaje a také že má prediktivní schopnosti. Dále byla ve dvou ze čtyř zemí prokázána významná změna vlivu indikátoru ekonomického sentimentu na spotřební výdaje v různých fázích hospodářského cyklu.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis examines the impact of the economic sentiment indicator on consumer spending in the V4 countries in different phases of the business cycle. In the empirical analysis, multiple dynamic models were constructed using regres-sion and analysis. The dynamic models were used based on the demonstrated de-pendence of lagged consumption expenditure by one period in predicting the change in the dependent variable. A significant explanatory variable, disposable income, was also included in the econometric models. The result of this paper demonstrated the effect of the economic sentiment indicator on consumer spend-ing and also that it has predictive power. Furthermore, in two of the four coun-tries, the effect of the economic sentiment indicator on consumer spending was shown to change significantly at different stages of the business cycle.
