Stress in Upper Primary School Children

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá fenoménem stresu a jeho výskytem u žáků druhého stupně základní školy. Teoretická část se kromě samotné problematiky stresu, historie jeho zkoumání, používané terminologie, zdravotních aspektů, prevence a způsobů zvládání krizových situací věnuje i vývojovému období puberty a specifickým vývojovým poruchám učení. Praktická část analyzuje výskyt stresu u dětí navštěvujících 6.-9. ročník základní školy. Na základě údajů získaných pomocí dotazníkového šetření porovnává dvě skupiny žáků – žáky s diagnostikovanou poruchou učení a děti, které těmito potížemi netrpí. U obou skupin zjišťuje nejen celkovou subjektivně posuzovanou míru zátěže, ale i její příčiny. Zaměřuje se přitom zejména na to zda, proč a do jaké míry děti stresuje samotná škola. Závěrečná část práce obsahuje návrhy nejrůznějších opatření, jež by mohla přispět ke zlepšení současného stavu

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the phenomenon of stress and its incidence in pupils in the upper grades of primary school. Besides the problem of stress itself, the history of research on stress, the terminology used, health aspects, prevention, and methods of handling crisis situations, the theoretical part is also dedicated to the developmental period of puberty and to specific learning disabilities. The practical part analyzes the incidence of stress in children attending grades 6 through 9 of primary school. On the basis of data obtained by a survey questionnaire, two groups of pupils are compared – pupils with a diagnosed learning disability and children who do not suffer from these problems. Determined for both groups is not only the overall subjectively evaluated level of stress, but also its causes. The focus then is in particular on whether, why, and to what extent children are stressed by school itself. The final part of the paper contains proposals for a variety of measures that could contribute towards improvement of the present situation.
