The relationship between achievement motivation of secondary school students and their social position in the classroom

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between achievement motivation of secondary school students and their social position in the classroom. The study is also focusing on gender differences and differences between schools in studied characteristics. Theoretical part informs about motivation, particularly achivement motivation and classroom as a small social group with focus on social position of an individual in it. The results inform about level of achievement motive, anxiety hindering and anxiety supporting the achievement of students, their influence and popularity in the classroom and relationships between these variables. From the results we assume, that the relationship between achievement motivation and social position in the classroom is rather negligible. Partial hypothesis concerning variance of studied characteristics in sample were also confirmed only partly.

Abstract:

Cieľom tejto práce bolo zisťovanie vzťahov medzi výkonovou motiváciou žiaka strednej školy a jeho postavením v školskej triede, so zameraním aj na rozdiely medzi pohlaviami a žiakmi jednotlivých škôl v skúmaných charakteristikách. Teoretická časť informuje o motivácii, najmä o výkonovej motivácii a školskej triede ako malej sociálnej skupine s dôrazom na postavenie jednotlivca v nej. Výsledky výskumu informujú o úrovni motívu výkonu, anxiozity brzdiacej a anxiozity podporujúcej výkon u žiakov, ich vplyve a obľube v triede a vzájomných vzťahoch týchto premenných. Z výsledkov usudzujeme, že vzťah medzi výkonovou motiváciou a postavením žiaka v triede je skôr zanedbateľný. Dielčie hypotézy týkajúce sa rozloženia sledovaných premenných v súbore sa tiež podarilo potvrdiť len čiastočne.
