Social networks and social life of high school students

Abstract:

Tato práce je zaměřena na téma týkající se oblasti sociálních sítí a sociálního života studentů. Cílem je zjistit, jaký je vztah mezi užíváním sociálních sítí a sociálním životem středoškolských studentů. Toto téma bylo vybráno z důvodu výrazného dopadu sociálních sítí na naši společnost a možného přehlížení jejich vlivu. Z předchozích studií bylo zjištěno, že sociální sítě mohou mít jak negativní, tak i pozitivní vliv na sociální život studentů. Výsledky ohledně vlivu sociálních sítí na životní spokojenost lidí byly různorodé. Metodou sběru dat pro tuto studii bylo dotazníkové šetření, které bylo uskutečněno osobně v únoru 2023 na střední škole Dvořákova gymnázia v Kralupech nad Vltavou. Výsledky z dotazníků byly vyhodnoceny deskriptivní statistikou, regresní analýzou, dvouvýběrovým t-testem a Mann-Whitney U testem. Pozitivní vztah se objevil mezi aktivním používáním Instagramu a TikToku a schopností začlenit se do skupiny nových lidí. Vztah se neprokázal mezi sociálními sítěmi a schopností komunikovat v reálném životě, partnerským stavem, časem stráveným s přáteli a životní spokojeností. Z těchto výsledku lze konstatovat, že pro náš sociální život je lepší využívat sociální sítě aktivně než pasivně. Tato studie poslouží všem studentům a rodičům. Ti na základě výsledků mohou posoudit, zda je vhodné používat sociální sítě a do jaké míry kontrolovat aktivitu dětí na sociálních stránkách.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the topic of social media and the social life of high school students. The aim is to determine the relationship between the use of social media and the social life of high school students. This topic was chosen due to the significant impact of social media on our society and the possible overlooking of its influence. Previous studies have found that social media can have both negative and positive effects on students' social lives. Results regarding the impact of social media on people's life satisfaction have been varied. The method of data collection for this study was a questionnaire survey, which was conducted in person in February 2023 at Dvořák gymnasium in Kralupy nad Vltavou. The questionnaire results were evaluated using descriptive statistics, regression analysis, two-sample t-tests, and the Mann-Whitney U test. A positive relationship was found between the active use of Instagram and TikTok and the ability to integrate into a new group of people. No relationship was found between social media and the ability to communicate in real life, relationship status, time spent with friends, and life satisfaction. From these results, it can be concluded that it is better for our social life to use social media actively rather than passively. This study will serve all students and parents who can use the results to assess whether it is appropriate to use social media and to what extent they should monitor their children's activity on social media platforms.
