The role of line manager within non-profit social services organizations

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je zjistit, v čem se podobá a v čem se liší očekávané chování liniového manažera u řadových pracovníků a u liniového manažera na jejich pracovišti, konkrétně v organizacích poskytujících sociálně aktivizační služby pro rodiny s dětmi. Teoretická část vymezuje stěžejní pojmy a koncepty z oblasti managementu, s důrazem na specifika managementu v neziskových organizacích sociálních služeb. Dále je obsaženo téma liniového manažera popsané z perspektivy vlastností, dovedností, znalostí, vůdcovství, kompetencí a stylů řízení. Teorie se zabývá i sociální prací s rodinou a dětmi a očekávaným chováním (tj. rolí), včetně typů možných rolí manažera a rolových konfliktů. Metodologická část popisuje použitou kvalitativní výzkumnou strategii, dotazování jakožto metodu sběru dat a techniku polostrukturovaného rozhovoru. Pro výběr respondentů byl zvolen záměrný (účelový) výběr. V empirické části jsou prezentována výzkumná zjištění a doporučení pro neziskové organizace sociální služeb poskytující sociálně aktivizační služby.

Abstract:

The aim of this diploma thesis is to determine common and distinguishing features of behaviour of a line manager as anticipated by employees and by a line manager in their workplace, concretely in organizations providing social activation services for families with children. The theoretical part defines the crucial terms and concepts in the area of management and accents the specifics of management within non-profit social services organizations. Furthermore, the thesis covers the topic of a line manager described from the perspective of personal qualities, skills, knowledge, leadership, competences and management styles. The theoretical part also handles social work with families and children and anticipated behaviour (i.e. the role) of a manager, including all possible roles of a manager and conflicts of these roles. The methodological part describes the qualitative research method used in the thesis, questioning as the tool of data collection and a semi-structured dialogue technique. The choice of respondents was based on purposive sampling. The empirical part presents findings of the research as well as suggestions for non-profit social services organizations providing social activation services.
