The Cost of Mass Shooting in the United States: Its Psychological and Physical Trauma, and Economic Costs

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the issue of mass shootings in the United States of America, as they seem to be one of the modern phenomena in the U.S., especially regarding their frequency. This thesis introduces the phenomenon of American mass shootings, as well as the basic terminology, and the definition of the term itself. Furthermore, the thesis shows the visible impacts of mass shootings on American society, as well as those that are overlooked, specifically, psychological and physical trauma, and the invisible ones that affect the American economy and the healthcare system. Additionally, the consequences are analyzed to show the real impact of the phenomenon of American mass shootings. Furthermore, this thesis showed that the consequences of mass shootings are visible in multiple spheres of American society - specifically in social, political, economic, etc. Moreover, the invisible consequences of psychological and physical health were found to be difficult to be accepted by American society. Eventually, the invisible economic consequences were found to be considerable, as the individuals, communities, as well as the American healthcare system are burdened with substantial debts.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou masového střílení ve Spojených státech amerických, kde jsou jedním z moderních fenoménů, zejména kvůli jejich častému výskytu. Práce nejdříve fenomén představí, spolu se základní terminologií, která se k němu pojí, a s definicí samotného masového střílení. Dále práce představí viditelné následky masové střílení na americkou společnost, spolu s následky, které jsou přehlížené, což jsou psychické a fyzické trauma, a také neviditelné následky, které ovlivňují americkou ekonomiku a americký zdravotnický systém. Dále jsou v práci tyto následky zanalyzovány a je ukázán reálný dopad amerického masového střílení na americkou společnost. Práce ukázala, že dopad masového střílení je patrný v několika sférách americké společnosti, zejména v sociální, politické, ekonomické atd. Dále bylo zjištěno, že neviditelné následky, které ovlivňují psychické a fyzické zdraví, jsou společností těžko přijímány. V závěru práce ukázala, že ekonomické následky masového střílení jsou velmi vážné, protože jak jednotlivci, tak celé komunity i americký zdravotnický systém jsou zadluženi.
