Potential candidate country of the European Union Bosnia and Herzegovina

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem Bosny a Hercegoviny a její cestě ke členství v Evropské unii. Přináší kompaktní obraz země, které se v českém prostředí nevěnuje tolik pozornosti. Teoretická část je zaměřena na teorii integrace. Podrobněji pak rozebírá teorii komunikace (Karl Deutsch), politiku rozšiřování Evropské unie a Kodaňská přístupová kritéria. Praktická část znázorňuje rozdíl mezi veřejným míněním o vstupu do Evropské unie a jednáním bosenskohercegovských politiků. Soustředí se pak na dvě klíčové oblasti, ve kterých je třeba dosáhnout pokroku, a to jsou právní stát a práva národnostních menšin.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis discusses the topic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its path to membership in the European Union. It brings a compact picture of a country that does not attract much attention in the Czech environment. The theoretical part focuses on the theory of integration. It then discusses in more detail the theory of communication (Karl Deutsch), the enlargement policy of the European Union and the Copenhagen Accession Criteria. The practical part of the thesis illustrates the difference between public opinion on accession to the European Union and the actions of Bosnia and Herzegovina‘s politicians. It then focuses on two key areas where progress is needed, namely the rule of law and the rights of national minorities.
