The Rate of Life Satisfaction and Depression Among Seniors

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem práce bylo analyzovat míru životní spokojenosti a deprese u seniorů pobývajících na lůžkových odděleních dlouhodobé péče Léčebny dlouhodobě nemocných a v zařízení Domu sociálních služeb Ostrava-Radvanice. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 100 seniorů (50 pacientů z Léčebny dlouhodobě nemocných a 50 uživatelů z Domu sociálních služeb Ostrava-Radvanice). Dotazníkové šetření bylo realizováno v DSS v období 5. 3. ? 30. 6. 2015 a v LDN v období 27. 7. ? 18. 9. 2015. K analýze jsme použili Dotazník životní spokojenosti dle Fahrenberg et al. a standardizovaný nástroj Škálu deprese pro geriatrické pacienty podle Sheikh a Yesavage. Výsledky: Šetřením bylo zjištěno, že s výskytem deprese je spojena nižší celková životní spokojenost seniorů. Dále bylo zjištěno, že neexistují rozdíly mezi muži a ženami, věkem, rodinným stav ani vzděláním a výskytem deprese u seniorů hospitalizovaných v LDN a pobývajících v DSS Ostrava-Radvanice. Rozdíly nebyly zjištěny ani mezi muži a ženami, věkem, rodinným stavem, vzděláním, místem pobytu a mírou celkové životní spokojenosti seniorů hospitalizovaných v LDN a pobývajících v DSS Ostrava-Radvanice. Také jsme zjistili, že depresí trpěla více než polovina náhodně oslovených respondentů nacházejících se v institucionální péči v Ostravě-Radvanicích. Závěr: Diagnostika a léčba deprese v zařízeních pro seniory by se měla stát běžnou praxí, stejně tak diagnostika životní spokojenosti u seniorů pobývajících v institucionální péči. Předešli bychom tak nespokojeným seniorům trpícím depresí. Zaměřit bychom se měli především na oblast sexuality a volného času, ve kterých byli naši respondenti spokojeni nejméně.

Abstract:

Objective: The aim of the thesis is analysing the rate of life satisfaction and depression among senior citizens, who live in the long-term ward blocks in The facility for people who are ill in the long-term and in The facility of social service in Ostrava-Radvanice. Methodology: I worked with a hundred of senior citizens (50 patients from The facility for people who are ill in the long-term and 50 clients from The facility of social service in Ostrava-Radvanice). Questionnaires were applied in The facility of social service in Ostrava-Radvanice between the dates 5. 3. ? 30. 6. 2015 and in The facility for people who are ill in the long-term between the dates 27. 7. ? 18. 9. 2015. For analysing I have used The Questionnaire of the life satisfaction (Fahrenberg et al.) and standardized tool called ?The range of depression for geriatric patients? (Sheikh, Yesavage). Results: According to my survey I have come to a conclusion, that occurrence of depression is connected with a lower life satisfaction among senior citizens. Further I have found out that there are no differences between men and women and there is no connection between either age or marital status or level of education and between the occurrence of depression among senior citizens, who are hospitalized in The facility for people who are ill in the long-term and also in The facility of social service in Ostrava-Radvanice. No differences were also indicated between men and women and there is again no connection between either age or marital status or level of education or locality and between the rate of general life satisfaction among senior citizens, who are hospitalized in The facility for people who are ill in the long-term and also in The facility of social service in Ostrava-Radvanice. I have also found out that more than 50 % of senior citizens from Ostrava-Radvanice, who have been randomly queried, have suffered from depression. Conclusion: The Diagnosis and treatment of depression in facilities for senior citizens should be everyday established practise, as well as the diagnosis of the life satisfaction among senior citizens living in institutional facility. It would prevent the occurrence of the unsatisfied senior citizens who suffer from depression. We should focus primary on the field of sexuality and free time, which is the area the senior citizens were the most unsatisfied with.
